No didn't have to take it out to wrap. The cx5 grill seems a bit harder to wrap especially with black chrome vinyl, its harder to work with.

After you turn off ignition do all your doors unlock? If your passenger doors are locked, the liftgate won't open when you use the button inside the car or on the liftgate itself. Using the remote will open them regardless if doors are locked or unlocked.

Put some rain x on the lens. I had same issue on the cx5 as well as my 2014 mazda3. Rain x helps a bit.
