Late to this thread but getting away from the pricing tangent.. I drive both the 2.5 n/a and the turbo, n/a 5 and turbo 9.
I've found this to be the case for me. I feel "turbo lag" in modern non-turbo cars I drive. So what does that tell me... what you feel may not be from what you think...
I've actually done a several day long camping trip 5 up and its really tight. I would say this thing is the best kiddo commuter ever. At least for what I like. I like cars that drive well.
But for camping trips with lots of gear, I take issue with the review, CX9 is far from the best...
If you care for handling over space, I guess swapping from the 9 to the 5 makes sense. But if that is the case you should probably look at the mazda6 2.5t too.
Whats the mazda marketing engineer's name that has the youtube vid appearances? If you're serious about getting your answer, track him down. He seems pretty accessible, its a better bet he would know than anybody here. Dave Coleman, that is the guy.
The only place I NEED to go wide open is...
The intent of my last post was to add some rpm data for the OP question. I have no idea if its progressive. I also don't know where between 2k and 5k rpm the ecm maps start diverging. Would be interesting to see it all.
I have never personally noticed any juddery power or weirdness on 87..
peak hp @ RPM:
250 @ 5000
peak tq @ RPM:
310 @ 2000
The maps don't start to differ until after peak tq, so octane should not make any difference in acceleration until you go WOT at high rpm. Even on those occasions, imo a few less hp is fine. Like the spec sheet says, that enjoyable phat tq...
Pretty much same here, could have squeaked by with a five seater. Again. But all the babies, grandparents, and all the fur babies wouldn't fit inside as well in the various combinations.
I was leaning towards a minivan until I test drove the CX9. Just illustrates how odd the choices in...
I drove an e30 and an e39. None of their current offerings excite me. May be my age.
It sure feels like mazda nerfed the upper rpm boost. I agree with your assessment that the steering, brakes, handling all feel great.
I personally am content enjoying my low rpm grunt.. but I think lots of...
I think there are a lot of people out there that cross shop much more differentiated cars than these three. I know folks who see something neat on an ad and then go "hey I need A CAR. Lets go buy one of those" even though there are 6 other cars better suited for what they need if they really...
Its true though. The logical extreme to utility is VAN. I've said it before here. Nothing against vans. I drive vans. I own a van. I love vans.
Where do you want your daily driver to fall on the sports car to box van spectrum? There is no wrong answer.
The long hood is the most...
Its just a peak value that happens at a certain RPM point. That is how the max torque value can be identical between two tunes with differing peak horse power. It is possible per the math.. On the 93 tune the engine would make more torque at the RPM where peak horsepower is occurring, but it...
I hear you, I negotiated a sport down to 29k. You really can't beat it for that. I was kind of doing my best top gear impression, Cx5 vs Cx9 highway passing winner = Macan. Keyboard doesn't convey the intent..
Its a good point that the cx9 does hwy accel with less drama (shifts+revs) than the...
If you upgrade to a cx-9 for strong hwy pulls, you're probably not going to be happy. Plenty of good reasons to get a cx9 but that isn't one of them.
Wring it out.. that is how you pass in a normally asperated four cylinder. Its built for doing exactly that, its not going to hurt it. I've...
