All you had to do was splice the yellow wire that goes into the radio harness or from the ignition switch if I'm not mistaken, and it would've powered on when you turn the key, and to get the color to switch you can do what i did and tap the headlight fuse

First of all you don't need to tap into a fuse, red and white go to a 12v accessory power, black goes to ground, orange goes to the headlight switch

If its an automatic it sounds like you may have disconnected a transmission line, and now you have no atf in your tranny
