Update on my situation. After six weeks or so, the dealer finally got the parts needed to replace the cylinder head. However, as they were bringing it into the shop they said it was making "odd" noises. They drained the oil and found metal bits from a shot bearing in the engine. So now they...

What were your out of pocket costs? Any reason why Mazda didn't cover the full engine? Some on here apparently have had the coolant leak issue fully covered even when they were out of the power train warranty.

I wish I could love my dud. It's in the shop for a couple months to fix the coolant leak.

Vote just changed to Yes. Dealership confirmed coolant leak at the cylinder head. Will be replacing the cylinder head per the TSB instead of the whole engine as there was no coolant in the engine. Covered under warranty. Minimum two weeks in the shop. Will let you know more once they've given...

I'm not expert, but after checking the oil it looked ok to me. Oil level was fine. I couldn't smell any coolant in it either that I could tell. I'll be working w/ Mazda to get their recommendations on how best to get it down there. *Don't worry about your advice and it coming back to haunt...

It has 51k miles and powertrain warranty runs out January 29, 2022.
