Well, there's this thread: DIY - Ball joint (Only) Replacement - 2016 CX-5
But the Lower Control Arm (LCA) is not meant to be serviceable, so most people just replace the whole LCA.
A search of the forum for LCA shows a lot of threads on this: Search results for query: lca
Yeah everything broke loose pretty easy since I had removed all bolts within the last year or so, some more than once. The one on the LCA front arm was the toughest. Using a swivel joint to get to it, had PB blaster on it and had to apply some heat and it broke loose again. Dewalt 1/2" impact...
Well my daughter's 2015 is at the dealer now getting both LCA's replaced because the ball joints are bad .....already. Both were replaced with Mevotech supreme, less than 2 years ago and less than 9000 miles. Both boots cracked and one ball joint is bad already. All have been greased after...
It's involved because the rear subframe has to be dropped just like if you were doing springs and adjustable LCA's. I doubt the 2.5 hour quote is accurate. Probably 4-5.
IIRC you're staying at stock ride height with the Koni's, but if you have anything else back there you want to knock out at...
It really kind of seems that this is just a "keep replacing parts until the issue goes away" type scenario. I've read quite a few posts where even taking it into a shop it's been a crap shoot. So, would most agree that I should go with the LCA and I'm thinking maybe the strut mount?
My replacement was on a CX-9, which has a different rear LCA design. On the CX-9, the balljoint, bushings and LCA are sold as one unit, so I never tried to remove the bushings. I just replaced the whole LCA since the balljoint was on it's way out too.
So turned out to be the LCA. Around a year old, from Napa and it went bad. I was able to do a warranty exchange and no labor cost since I was doing my own work luckily.
So hopefully now I'm good for many more miles, new LCAs, wheel bearings and tie rod ends. Got an alignment and feels...
...arm. I know you said you tested it, but take the wheel off and do a visual check anyway. Even then, there was a recent thread where the owner couldn't see anything wrong, but he eventually replaced the LCA and that fixed the issue.
EDIT: See here: I'm guessing the CV joint. Anyone disagree?
...my best efforts to dodge potholes, this is the time of year when they are sometimes unavoidable, or too hard to see in the dark. As a result, the LCA bushings on the front passenger side have also failed. The symptoms were a very slight pull to the left during moderate acceleration, and a...
...my leaking fronts. FCS doesn't have the best reputation, but they were just fine on my lowered 2018.
I also replaced the passenger side front LCA on my 2018 at the same time. I had the same issue with the bushings being worn out. The replacement arms come with balljoint and bushings already...
When both my front LCA's had torn bushings, the cornering was very sloppy. I wouldn't want to stay driving on torn bushings. My CX-5's LCA's were good until summer of 2024. I bought the car in April 2013, so the originals lasted me a good ~130k miles.
Did the end links and front struts with...
...that Mevotech up-line that @Jmaz posted about. I decided to just go ahead a replace everything on the front end. They had a kit with both sides LCA, inner and outer tie road ends and stabilizer links for like $425 so I just got that and did it all. Only thing to add is stabilizer bushings if...
