Congrats on the new truck. Seems like a much better fit for your needs. Our cx5 is my wife's DD and while it is plenty adequate as a commuter vehicle, I always get a slight grin driving my v6 accord.
Your first paragraph is not accurate. Higher octane fuel has no more or less energy than low octane. Higher octane fuel simply better resists premature detonation which can damage an engine. This misinformation is everywhere.

How about retrofitting the H9 halogen bulb for more light, rather than a hid kit in a vehicle designed for halogen bulbs. These kits are full of glare to oncoming drivers.

Regardless of your opinion, factually speaking, it changes the feel and throttle response of the vehicle. In fact, the Mazda manual states this is exactly what it does. It makes rolling acceleration much more enjoyable as the car is always revving in the power band.
what he means is, most cars don't require "quick and deliberate throttle" to initiate a downshift. The CX-5 does. It takes some getting used to. All other vehicles I owned are happy to downshift, the CX-5 holds on till the 11th hour. This is however remedied with the "sport" mode on the 2016...
