was it on stock wheels too? I can't really tell from your avatar what brand/model of tires were you using? I know some brands are wider than other for the same size. maybe you had some that were wider, or Koenig for some that were actually narrower than the size said

sorry but that's why i asked for people who actually tried it. I just got a reply back from Koenig and he's been on 235/40-18 for 2 years now on stock wheels and is even dropped on megan springs. Thanks for replying though, at least you took the time to write something =)

that sounds weird. i mean oil dripping after a loud POP is usually not good. Hopefully it's something minor and not a blown engine. You probably won't read this until you come back but i was wondering how much oil did it actually drop on the ground after the pop? good luck man!
