Just wanted to give an update. It was the timing belt tensioner falling apart -- good call! I replaced the whole timing belt kit (timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, etc) along with the water pump. Car is back to being its usual happy self. Thanks for the help!!

I just ran a CARFAX on my (former) MSP, and found out that the current owner lives somewhere around Seven Springs in North Carolina. Just curious to see if he/she is on the forums .. cause if so, I can offer a lot of background info on the car, and it'd be great to hear how my baby is doing! :)

^^ I was considering that, but the car is 12 years old and has seen plenty of snow .. so I'm sure the stock mount itself, not just the stock insert but the metal too, is in pretty bad shape. So I'd like to get a whole new mount. Can anyone verify the part number for a stock '00 Protege motor...

As stated in title, looking for a short shifter for my 2000 Protege ES. Car I just got still has the stock one and it's waaaaaay too tall for my tastes! I'll take any of the well-known kits -- TWM, B&M, Kartboy, Megan Racing, etc. Thanks!

Does anyone know if the TWM or B&M or Kartboy or any of the quality short shifter kits will fit a 2000 Protege? The Protege I just inherited from my dad has the stock shifter, and it's preposterously tall and I really just can't deal with it. But I'm not sure what options are out there any more...

So my dad was digging around in his garage this past week, and found this. I don't have the slightest idea what it is other than something that obviously came off my MSP. It had to have been pulled off my car when it was relatively new cause the metal still shines. Anyone have a clue?
