Bump for this thread! I have a 2000 Protege with a double DIN stock stereo, and I'm soon gonna be replacing it with single DIN head unit -- and I wanna fill the extra space with that pocket njaremka suggested. But do I need to get that support bar as well, or is that only needed for 2001+ models?

I do have another question though that's actually related to what Maryjane asked. I'm also going from double DIN to a single DIN, and of course I'd like to get a pocket to fill in the gap that will be created once the cassette player is gone. Do I also have to get the 'support bar' referenced in...

I figured there was no real 'easy' fix for the factory stereo, and I looked at the info on that module but I didn't get any warm, fuzzy feelings inside .. so I went ahead and did some research into getting a new head unit. I decided on this one...

I want to say yes, but I'm not 100% sure. My dad owns a 2000 ES, and we often swapped things over between his car and my MSP. I believe the only real differences are in the front bumper, headlights, and front grill.

Well thanks! I still miss my MSP to this day -- and I recently found out that after it was totaled, somebody in Philly bought it and rebuilt it. So it's floating around the city somewhere. But anyhoo -- IMO, the whole rear suspension is retarded right from the factory. The struts are stupid...

^^ There is a way to fix that clunkity-squeak of the MSP's suspension. And make the suspension even better (believe it or not). :) Look up info on the AXR clunk fix bracket kit in the Suspension subforum. I had one on my MSP -- and still wish I'd had the time to rip it off when my MSP was...

Glad to see pics -- finally! ;) So you've just got to reinstall the FMIC, and then the car will be good to go? Or are you gonna be pulling those parts off that you want to coat, coating 'em, reinstalling 'em, and THEN putting it back on the road?
