    Biennial Torment

The oil filter is substantially larger than the OEM filter for the Skyactiv 2.0! How come I never noticed this before? Been changing oil/filter on both cars since 2018. 🤦

    2026 Mazda CX-5: Who’s actually getting one?

I hated it so much! 😬 Edit: The screw holes were hard to cover with decals. I do respect the dealership for staying in business for 64 years. They closed in 2021.

    Biennial Torment

The SA is due for smog again this year. Two years ago we failed on our first try and passed the re-test after a tuneup. As I rarely drove her since, I went in this Tuesday hoping that we'd get lucky... Nope, we failed the test. 😭 I couldn't bring myself to look at the result until today. We're...

Seeking advice regarding hard clunk from transmission

Glad to hear that the car is shifting fine now. Was everything else about the car checked out as well? 😅

Lifting angle and levels when changing fluids

The drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission oil pan and the fill hole is on top towards the front. For the transfer case and rear differential, the fill ports are on the sides, as I recall. With the transmission fluid, the level is measured at an exact temp with the engine running and...

What have you done to your CX-3 today?

Yesterday I set up a new carrier in the front passenger seat to contain my dogs. They used to ride in the backseats but I need to haul large items this weekend. All my gears/supplies/tools are organized in the trunk.

Seeking advice regarding hard clunk from transmission

If the dent was deep enough to hit the internal components, it probably would have resulted in more than a slow leak. The pan is a very thick and solid piece of metal. The other interpretation is that a slight dent along the pan edge caused a slow leak, and that slow leak over a long period of...

Seeking advice regarding hard clunk from transmission

Got it. So the shifting pattern reset and fluid topping off both helped. Did you get to see the dent on the pan when it was discovered? If not, would you be willing to check it out yourself? A good look at the pan will help you decide to freak out or chill. 😅

Understood. Did the car shift fine when you first got it?

Do you happen to have a picture showing the dent on the pan? The filter is attached to the transmission. There is a few inches of clearance between the transmission and the pan. I am not sure how a dent could hurt the transmission itself. For your quick reference, here's a pic of the...
