This thread, like my Protege5, is starting to feel like it's reaching end-of-life. In an effort to keep both alive in their own ways, here's what's been happening in my garage of Proteges.
P5 hit a fun milestone
Long list of growing todos. As you can see, correct cluster bulbs are on the...
Well what I thought was a transmission noise on my P5 ended up being a very shot front driver's wheel bearing that was not making normal wheel bearing noises. New bearing in and it drives beautifully. I also had a shake in my steering wheel and especially while braking, and those are totally...
Just looked at your profile again and I see you've got some history on here. Cool to have an old member back (not like I was around in those days, just usually see people drop off and never come back).
I've used the Wemos Lolin ESP32-S3 Mini and S2 Mini for a lot of projects and it's cheap and great. I like it because it's a dev board but doesn't come with already soldered headers so you can solder your own wires directly to it, and it's like $6 on AliExpress.
For the headlight control, I...
Greetings, thanks for taking a look!
The project is kind of stalled for now, as the car is sitting due to a bad transmission.
Beyond that, the only issue I'm having right now (which admittedly is a significant one) is that the control over the headlight state is flaky, even though control of...
I am now the owner of two Mazda Proteges.
2003 Sunlight Silver Protege5 5mt with 216k - my 6-year daily-driver
2003 Beige Protege ES Sedan tiptronic auto with 228k - from a family member
I've driven the automatic before but holy cow that 4spd automatic is absolute TRASH. Brings the whole car...
At 215k miles, developed an idle misfire that eventually got bad enough that you could see it on the tach and it threw a code for #3 misfire.
Replaced wires and plugs and checked spark plug on #3 and it was noticably worse than other plugs.
Did a dry compression test and it came back 180 180...
This exact thing happened to me! I was shocked at how hard it was to find a good replacement mirror that was color matched.
Now I'm paranoid to move the mirrors lest I break them again.
Bought this AC compressor clutch kit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0DGTKXNS2
It came with the clutch, pully, and magnetic thing.
I sanded and wiped down the old pulley and pressure plate on the compressor because I didn't want to risk the cheap China bearing in the Amazon kit and the...
I'm an idiot. As always when posting these kinds of things, I keep researching after posting to try and understand the problem more. I went out to try and test the resistance on the clutch coil and the clutch is just gone.
Literally exactly what happened here...
My air conditioning stopped working last summer and now that it's getting warmer, I'm trying to fix it on the cheap.
Here's where I'm at
The compressor seems to not be kicking on even with the AC light on.
I have the Harnessed Performance AC light flicker harness so this is not *that* issue...
I will vouch for all of this. EXCEPT that Honda/Acura, Lexus, and most other OEM 5x114.3 wheels are going to have a different, often smaller hub diameter meaning they won't fit on the Protege's hub without some jenky spacers or machining of the hub/wheels. OEM 5x114.3 wheels that do fit are...
I find this to be the case for most that I see. Driven unappreciatively.
I'm in Hawaii on vacation right now. It's turist central here so most cars are new and I expected to see no P5s, but over the week I've seen 2 silvers and a yellow. Definitely not common here.
This is crazy but really cool. Not something I'd attempt, but as an engineer, it's very intriguing to me. I'll certainly be following to see how it goes!
My brother has an 03 tiptronic, it's definitely soft and spongy compared to my 03 5speed. Curious how it goes with a turbo 😁
