IIHS small overlap crash test - 2014 Mazda3 - good! Video inside

That is good news, although it was a little painful to see my Soul Red Mazda3 destroyed.

    Ground Clearance

I agree, even if you don't have experience with lowered cars. If you need more ground clearance than what this car offers, you probably should be looking at a small crossover like the CX-5.

    Infotainment System Bugs

They weren't every 6 weeks, that's for sure. More like every several months. I think I performed 4 or 5 updates while I had the two Focuses.

Anyone installed winter tire on sGT?

I'm still waiting for my Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires to arrive at Discount Tire. Been waiting almost 3 weeks now, I think. We've had some serious snow here lately, too. Getting a little annoyed, although the OEM tires are doing better than I expected them to.

    Infotainment System Bugs

Boy, deja vu all over again. I just want through all of these updates with fixes and new bugs introduces with my (two) 2012 Focus Titanium hatchbacks. I spent a couple of years going through multiple updates, and it wasn't until just before I traded my second one for my 2014 Mazda3 that Ford...

Short test drive in Mazda 3 today

All the car mags sure seem to prefer the new Mazda6 over everything else in its class from a steering and handling perspective (and just about everything else).

First Snow in a '14 iT Manual

And NO summer-only tires is going to be OK below 40 degrees. There is no disputing that winter tires will perform better in winter than all-seasons. It's been proven time and again in multiple tests at Tire Rack and just about every major car magazine. Yes, different all-season tires and...

First Snow in a '14 iT Manual

I've often wondered what I would do if I lived somewhere with more moderate weather, where you will get a just a bit of cold and snow, so that summer-only tires will screw you over during some winter days and it's not worth it to get winter tires. Still not sure. However, one point: you don't...

First Snow in a '14 iT Manual

Winter tires aren't just about snow grip, but temperature as well. All-season just don't cut it in any season. They're a constant compromise.

    Infotainment System Bugs

I'll have to grab a new PDF. My PDF version is probably old, too. I bet that's exactly what it was--1 or 3 flashes, and maybe some Japanese-to-English translation issues made it less clear.

First Snow in a '14 iT Manual

I always use winter tires. Have been for at least 12 years. My Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winter tires are on their way. I wish I had them this morning, but the OEM tires weren't too bad in the snow for "no-season" tires. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-reviews/winter-tires-track-tested

    How Fast?

I don't want to mention how fast I've had my RX-8. In my defense, it was around 02:00 on an almost deserted expressway, and I felt like I had to see how fast it would go.

    Infotainment System Bugs

I must have an old edition of the manual. Here's what mine states on page 4-50 under "Lane Change Signals" where they discuss operating the turn signal lever up or down halfway: "A personalization function is available to change the number of flashes. Refer to Personalization Features on page...

    Infotainment System Bugs

That was not what I got out of the manual. It seemed to state pretty clearly that the number of blinks could be adjusted, unless I somehow really missed it, and I re-read it several times.

    My new 2014 Mazda 3 S GT

That sucks. I'm grateful that Crippen Auto Mall in Lansing, MI has been great to me both in sales and service through three cars: my 2005 Mazda3, my 2009 RX-8 (that I still have), and my new 2014 Mazda3.

    Infotainment System Bugs

Anyone know if this update adds the setting the car is supposed to have to adjust the number of times a turn signal flashes when you lightly push/pull the turn signal stalk? The manual says that the number of times can be changed from the default of 3 in the infotainment system, but when I go...

Feedback on BSM, Sport vs. Touring, 14 vs. 13?

Yes, I really like the cross traffic alert system. I hate trying to back out of a parking spot between two huge vehicles I can't see past. Around here, practically everyone drives an SUV or crossover, so I find myself in that situation frequently. Cross traffic alert has already helped me out...

2014 Mazda3 Review in The New York Times

I must have missed it. I didn't read or rear any reference to missing rear vents. I heard a reference to a lacking rear power-point, which I agree with. My 2012 Focus had one. However, as far as rear air vents, like most cars, they're located under the front seats.

New '14 3 SGT owner, bored, word fort inc.

By Sport-Automatic, I mean just leaving it in D, but pressing the Sport button, letting the car handle shifting for you. It seems to do a pretty darn good job picking and holding gears. By Sport-Manual, I mean putting it into manual shift mode and also pressing the Sport button.

I don't think Sport mode helps much with that shift delay. I also noticed it, and it's annoying, but I also got used to it and plan for it. Maybe a future Mazda ECU/PCM update will address that. However, Sport mode doesn't just alter the automatic shift logic; it also speeds up throttle...
