The knocking is a concern. You'd have to tear into it to get a better idea of what's bad. You could get lucky and swap the pump, add new oil (couple short interval changes) and have it be fine, but most likely going to be more severe damage based on the knocking comment.

I agree with jal142, head gaskets are not a common issue with these engines. Curious, how many miles are on it? As for which brand, I'd be cautious about the cheap brands. If you can swing the extra cost, get the Cloyes or even official Mazda (which is likely made by a name brand company).

I don't have a CX9, but I have a USB microSD adapter with a 16gb micro SD for my music and it works fine. As youri said, it just sees it as a USB, should work on the CX9 as well. It was something like $10 from Amazon.

Take alternator out and bring to a parts store that tests them. If you have the old alternator, you could bring that as well.

That's a good point. I know on my wife's old CX9, the light cutoff stepped down from right to left (US) as to reduce blinding oncoming traffic on the left side of the car. UK being on the (wrong) other side of the road would need the opposite.

I think the title is still accurate. Both pumps failed, but it was due to wiring. The OP could update the title to reference the wiring: "Fuel pumps failed due to wiring." or something like that.

Try pulling the serpentine belt and running it again to see if noise disappears. You should be able to run it for a minute or 2 without worrying about the battery dying.

I'm also in the camp of lifter tick, however, I wouldn't say it's normal. Last time I heard lifter tick that loud was when I started the new engine in my old 89 5.0, but it only ticked for about 10 seconds until all the lifters pumped up. If it is a lifter not pumping up, that might not show...

I agree, if they are louvers, oil flow should not be an issue. Very common design across the automotive universe.
