How to change transmission fluid in 2012 AWD CX-9?

Can you explain the shudder? When does it happen? Is it repeatable? My wife's 09 CX9 had a pretty bad shudder when on freeway, medium/heavy throttle when torque converter was locked. I thought it was the transmission but turned out to be a misfire. I bought a cheap bluetooth OBDII reader and...

Coolant mixed with oil, beyond repair? 2012 CX-9

The knocking is a concern. You'd have to tear into it to get a better idea of what's bad. You could get lucky and swap the pump, add new oil (couple short interval changes) and have it be fine, but most likely going to be more severe damage based on the knocking comment.

    3.7L Engine replacement (2011 CX-9)

I agree with jal142, head gaskets are not a common issue with these engines. Curious, how many miles are on it? As for which brand, I'd be cautious about the cheap brands. If you can swing the extra cost, get the Cloyes or even official Mazda (which is likely made by a name brand company).

    Should I reburp my coolant?

If the engine temp was only around 200F, likely not hot enough to trigger fans to turn on, however, at 200F, the thermostat should be at least partially open, so you'll have coolant circulating and pushing air out. You could try to burp it again, it wouldn't hurt. I know with my 14 Explorer, I...

    New here! Need advice

You could throw a few bucks at a new water pump before putting the new/used engine in. Should be less expensive since it's out of the car. That should give you a bit more time before you start to worry about it. For reference, my wife had an 09 CX9 with internal water pump. Never had any issues...

Lack of power, limited revs and other issues...Help

Just to confirm, it's doing the rev limit of 3500 in park or neutral, correct? If so, that might be normal. AKA a 'soft limiter' is fairly common these days (even back to 2008). We don't have my wife's cx9 anymore, so maybe someone else has one to try a neutral/park rev test. I agree with...

    Smelly AC

If the CX5 is like most vehicles, turning the temp up doesn't really help the evaporator dry out. The heater core is after the evaporator. All you need to do is turn off the A/C and make sure you aren't in defrost or foot only modes as those run the A/C (temperature permitting). Just set the...

USB MicroSD card reader for music?

I don't have a CX9, but I have a USB microSD adapter with a 16gb micro SD for my music and it works fine. As youri said, it just sees it as a USB, should work on the CX9 as well. It was something like $10 from Amazon.

Take alternator out and bring to a parts store that tests them. If you have the old alternator, you could bring that as well.

    CX-50 Quirks or Minor Annoyances

Just a general comment on the wipers, my previous VW Golf and my current Ford Edge both require wipers to be in service position to lift them otherwise they hit the hood. My Golf had to do similar 'electronically' put in service position. My Edge, I can actually just manually rotate the wiper...

Mazda CX-5 2012 - Bumping / grinding sound near front tyre

I agree lug nuts first thing to check. My coworker just went through loose (and missing) lug nuts last week. He had new struts put on and after about a week a bad vibration developed. He thought it might be the struts, but I told him to check wheel lugs first. One front wheel was missing 3 of...

2013 CX-5 Sport Nav AFS replacement - options?!

That's a good point. I know on my wife's old CX9, the light cutoff stepped down from right to left (US) as to reduce blinding oncoming traffic on the left side of the car. UK being on the (wrong) other side of the road would need the opposite.

2016+ CX-9 Front Inner Tie Rod Adjustment Tool?

I'm actually surprised a 1/2" (12.7mm) wrench doesn't fit just right if the 12mm is too small and 13mm is too large. I've used a cresent wrench and resorted to a pipe wrench at one time. Vice grips work as well. If you turn each side equal amounts, you should still be pretty darn close to...

Both fuel pumps failed (2022 CX-5)

I think the title is still accurate. Both pumps failed, but it was due to wiring. The OP could update the title to reference the wiring: "Fuel pumps failed due to wiring." or something like that.

CX-9 2010 Engine noise (slow chattering or rattling)

Try pulling the serpentine belt and running it again to see if noise disappears. You should be able to run it for a minute or 2 without worrying about the battery dying.

    CX-5 Tapping noise

I'm also in the camp of lifter tick, however, I wouldn't say it's normal. Last time I heard lifter tick that loud was when I started the new engine in my old 89 5.0, but it only ticked for about 10 seconds until all the lifters pumped up. If it is a lifter not pumping up, that might not show...

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

I agree, if they are louvers, oil flow should not be an issue. Very common design across the automotive universe.
