Are both of the hot spots coming from the replaced headlight? If possible, can you block off the good headlight with a towel and see what the beam pattern is like with just the one in question?

Are you certain they replaced the headlight with an OEM HID unit? Can you take some pics of the beam aimed against a wall so it'll be easier to see what's going on? The OEM HID beam pattern from the 2010 Mazda5 headlights should look like this: There's a chance the bulb is not seated...

Mine has been doing that some as of late (@137K miles). I'm going to try and clean the IAC valve this weekend to see if that helps.

It's a MT and upon seeing the drops the first time did a smell test. Definitely not tranny oil.

I just changed the oil last week to a high mileage 5W-30. Wonder if that had anything to do with it. In any case, I was afraid it might be the rear main seal. What would keep the oil at a lower level determine?
