How bad do you want to get better mileage???

Ah, but can you please explain WHY it is not good practice? I am failing to see, mechanically, what will cause a problem. Now please keep in mind also what I'm referring to is NOT popping it in and holding it just to coast (so you are using the pedal/clutch more often), but rather simply...

How bad do you want to get better mileage???

Ok, here's a thought for you guys that advocate coasting in neutral (5 speed). What kidn of life do you expect to get out of your clutch? Lets face it - a clutch is wear-device, and will only operate a miximum number of times before it begins to fail. Of ocurse, the way you shift affects this...

I am in need of advice on my wife's brakes... I think I got screwed.

3 day old post. Chance to go back complaining to Midas is pretty much gone, thsi service is ancient history for them. x20 on bleeding the brakes. If you have the receipt/printoff, often places like Midas will actually print the name of the technician on teh form; if not, it will have a work...

How I increased my mpg ?

It might be worthwhile to spend 5 minutes and go inside the statio nand ask them if something changed. IF you use teh same place every time, tehy probably know you. Most places switched gas awhile ago, it's June now. Plus (I don't knwo where you live) not all of the US actually changes gas...

    P5 Tires?

Yeah, if you can go 205 ratio, and want a good yet affordable performance tire, I have the Pirelli P-Zero Nero (all-season version) and have been happy with them. Very grippy! They are a little louder than the Dunlops, and I definitely notice the tramlining, but the performance is great. I've pu...

dead spot in brake travel after flushing

Good, that's what I tought. When I did them, I did it P-R, P-F, D-R, D-F. I knew this wasn't right... but that's the order I had access to them while rotating the tires. The logic of rotating a set of tires by yourself, doing it rear-straight-forward and front-crossing-to-rear while only using...

dead spot in brake travel after flushing

Rotated my tires, figured while I was at it I might as well chenge the brake fluid... only 54k miles on the car, but figured after 5 years the original fluid must be pretty cruddy in there (I'd syphoned/refilled the bottle before but never a real flush). FYI, at the wheels it was surprisinglu...

    How to flush radiator coolant??

Don't the blocks on these cars have a drain plug? I haven't looked yet b/c, well, the time hasn't come yet... but every other engine I've seen has a drain plug just so you can get ALL the coolant out. If you get it out of both the radiator and block, there's hardly anything left. not enoug hto...

    Leak in the spare tire

Keep in mind that this tire is at the very least, 4.5 years old, or as much as 7 years old, depending on when your car was made. It's very possible that this tire is beginning to dry-rot... and any used tores you find in a junkyard are likely to eventually suffer the same fate. just throwing...

    Carbon Fiber Hatch

Lets be honest. The only way something like this will actually happen is if somebody REALLY believes in it, and is willing to pony up a snotpile of $$ up front, knowing that it will take awhile to pay off. You have a hard time getting 10 all at once now, but if this is something that there...

So I Got An Oil Change.........

There is an easy (and fun!) way to find out of you have an exhaust leak. Take a potato, that's just the right size, and shove it into the end of the tailpipe so that it completely blocks it. Now see if you can crank the car. If you have a leak/hole of any size, it will crank. If not... well...

    Satalite radio antenna mounting

Looking for pics, write-ups, explanation of where/how you guys routed the antenna for a satalite radio. I have a Serius one, w/ the little 1" square magnet tip. You can't tap in a switch and use the stock antenna/wire, can you? I assume there's something special about this thing that makes it...

    Worse MPGs after oil change?

I use Catrol 10w30, non-synch. Next time I'll give the 5w a shot. I've never encountered this before either, all other vehciles I've had ('64 Malibu, '90 Cherokee, 89 4Runner, 97 Saturn) have been better right after change, then slow decline. Which makes more sense.

    Worse MPGs after oil change?

I would agree w/ this except that 1 - they don't change gas in the late spring, nor in early October, and 2 - since I get gas every 10 days, the chances of it coinciding with it perfectly (I mean the very next tank of gas) every time I change oil is very slim. Re: driving habits, yes, I know...

    Worse MPGs after oil change?

I track my mileage religiously. At every tank (~10-12 days) I fill it and divide my mileage w/ adjustment for tires. Looking back through records (13 months)... after last 3-4 oil changes (since bought it), my mileage drops ~ 1.5-2mpg, (to ~27.5) then slowly creeps back up to about 29-29.5ish...

Protege 5 or Mazda 3 Hatchback?

Here's my thoughts. You delivery pizza for a living. I figure it's a safe bet you're not making 6 figures doing it. Save your money. Enjoy the car you have now. Just having a car payment is such a HUGE waste of $$. To get that M3 you'll just be farther in debt, and you're clearly happy with...

    Oil filter drainback
