    Turbo "Truths / Myths" dispelled

I'm quoting my own post to clarify. I do not agree that you need oil to be at full operating temp before driving the vehicle gently. I do agree that it should be at operating temp before you really start ragging on the engine and that goes for any engine really. Also, just because the coolant...

    Turbo "Truths / Myths" dispelled

    1. Incorrect - CX5 (Skyactive in general) does not require premium. His statement is that if your car requires premium, use it otherwise engine damage could occur. 2. Technically all engines burn some oil 3. Debatable - what does it mean to last as long? Internal engine, bearings, rings...

Control Arm Shears off on a 2023 CX-50 with 2k miles

I usually don't bump older threads, but any word from the OP on root cause/resolution?

Why is my interior fogging up? (2020 CX-9)

I agree, double check recirculation is not on. Also, AC is automatically ON if you have only the floor vents on or any configuration with the windshield vent on (even if the AC light is not on), however, there is a lower ambient temperature limit which the AC does not turn on. Not all vehicles...

2016 CX-5 Loud Clunk when Braking

I don't have any good input, but watched the video and noticed the clunk looks to happen after the vehicle is fully stopped. Also, the clunk sounds more like sheet metal popping, more of a hollow sound (if that makes sense). If you stop very gradually, does it still pop?

Is there a way to reduce steering effort?

With most factory drive modes, 98% sure the throttle mapping differences is just the relation between pedal and throttle body, plus transmission shift changes, not actual changes to the timing/fuel mapping. I'm sure there are some vehicles that actually change the engine tune with drive modes...

    2012 CX-9 AC Drain Clog

Sounds like you have a piece of debris that you can blow away from the drain, but as it collects water, that debris makes its way back to the drain and plugs it. Not sure if you can get inside there without removing the HVAC 'box'. Maybe you can remove the fan and get access?

    Help! My CX-9 won’t start

I'd be surprised if you washed down the cylinders enough to prevent it from starting. At least I'm interpreting it as the cylinders were washed of oil and now the rings don't seal because of excess wear. Just to be clear, it cranks over strong, just doesn't want to start, correct? If so, have...

Do I want Torque Pro, what about an OBD2 scanner?

I have Torque Pro and I don't think it has the ability to put vehicle into maintenance mode or cycle ABS, but I haven't looked at that closely. With my 2 newer Fords use Forscan, which can do all that (and more).

Average MPG less than 20mpg, am I alone?

Another point in the cart CarpeDiem posted. Notice the Mahle new vs. used. Used, even just 10% used, will capture more particles than a new filter. When a mechanic shows you a 'dirty' filter and tells you it should be changed to protect the engine, just smile and nod and say no thanks. That...

    Nitrogen Inflation?

I had to laugh at that. First 2 bullets = money grab Last bullet, I agree, that makes no sense. How does under inflated tire cause a false TPMS alarm?

    Nitrogen Inflation?

My opinion, it's a 'money grab' more than anything. Sure it may have more consistent pressures and may not lose as much air over time, but I don't think the cost outweighs the benefit. Also, what if one tire is low and you need to add air? Either you fill it up with normal air, or you have to go...

CX-5 Jerks back and forth when warmed up and pushed hard

A lean mixture can cause jerking because there may not be enough fuel in the cylinders to fire. And it may be inconsistent as well. Even worse, lean fuel mixture could cause more damage (detonation, blown head gasket...etc) If it was a plugged fuel filter, it would more likely happen under high...

I can’t drive with 35 PSI (in OEM Toyo tires)!

Be cautious about too low PSI. Remember the Firestone debacle on Fords back in the day? I believe low tire pressures specified by Ford contributed to overheating the tires and tread failure.

    Brand New CX-5, Dead Battery!

It's fairly common these days for accessory mode to remain active for a period of time after shutting vehicle off and then all power shuts down when a door is opened. My wife's 09 CX9 would beep a few times when you got out of the vehicle with the key on you, but still running or in run mode...

2008 CX-9 - Reliable mechanic says non-OEM exhaust system would cause failed inspection

First, what is he replacing for $4k-$5k in exhaust work? Second, non-OEM parts should have not cause any issues, as long as they meet the requirements.

Water slushing sound when braking (2016 CX-9)

How are your air conditioning drains? My wife's CX9 had a plugged drain and you could hear water sloshing around. I used a bit of compressed air (one of those pump up sprayers without any liquid) and gave it a quick blast. I bet at least a quart or more came out.

Mazda CX-5 (and other models) Oil Consumption TSB (WTF)

You might have a good case now. Last year you were at 1/2 qt every 7k miles, now you're at 1+qt every 3k miles. That's a 4x increase in less than a year.

How to change transmission fluid in 2012 AWD CX-9?

If you have an Android phone/tablet, you can pay for the Torque App ($5) and you can real time monitor a lot of things. There's a free version, but I know I had to go with the pay version in order to see the misfire.
