I sincerely doubt that you would preserve the original finish with these products. They stick on with adhesive and removing them (or the adhesive residue) would damage the original plastic finish. For that reason I will wait and purchase a kit when I want to permanently cover up (or refresh)...

When I insured our new CX-9 I talked with our (State Farm) agent. For us it turned out to be cheaper ($12/year) to lower our comprehensive deductible to $0 than to add glass coverage. I'm sure I'll make that back on windshields. I typically need one replaced every 5 years or so.
