It would be sad if Mazda would do this for using genuine Mazda parts. I just posted the link per Ed's request. I dont mind the cartridge style filter myself. It is more messy but there is less for the landfill and I understand that it filters better also. Just a big pain to remove the bottom pan.

There is a kit from Mazda to convert canister style filter over to a spin on Mazda standard filter. I can post link if anyone is interested. I believe it runs about $85 for parts. You would still have to remove belly pan each time.

Correct Mazda size is 75.6mm 14 flute. I found a 76mm 14 flute at local store that words great.(wink)

Dealer provided my first service for free, took it in at 3,200 miles. I did the next oil change at 8,000 miles at which time i changed to synthetic and a Pure One oil filter. I plan on doing my oil changes at 7,000 miles now using synthetic oil.(drive)
