    Spark plug change interval confusion

That dude had to come up with something. And quick. And I bet he was very honest and authority-beaming on the phone... Moral- they're in there not for you, but for themselves only. This will never change. They will upsell you on anything they can get away with. Good for you for trusting, but...

    2018 CX-5 Low Speed Transmission Hesitation/Jerk/Lurch

You've got to remember that the normal operational temperature of the oil in your engine is 185+, anything below that is cold.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Same deal as with GM, as I suspected. But GM design ends up collapsed lifter as a huge racket in any mode, but nothing falls off. Then you now what's going on. Mazda is more sophisticated. The impacted valve adjuster is not involved in day-to-day operations. It gets itself known only in...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Great job, congrats! I hope if Mazda pays for enough cases like that, there will be some global solution.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Don't blame the dealership though. Mechanics have to be paid, they will not take the valve cover off for free. The dealer, rightfully, has no interest to pay for it. So it is between Mazda and the owner.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

That's the whole point, the worst case scenario for them. And the majority of the "codes" only come up for emissions faults anyway.

Well, they're not out of money here, you are. You've gotta spend your gift card at your beloved dealership, right?

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Umm. Don't hold your breath. From my experience they will just call you back at the time they realize they have someone's car on the lot, and their loaner missing. Saying the car is ready to go, nothing is wrong with it... That's what it takes to shrug the customer off of their shoulders. Who...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Man, everyone agrees that the human life and well being is more important then the machine. You just can't accept that this particular falul, and many others prevent the engine from producing the needed power, limp mode or not.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

So where does the POWER in question supposed to come from if the fault prevents the engine from producing the said power? This particular fault has obviously not being identified during development and testing. Hope they either fix the hardware, or develop a special cases for different perceived...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Sorry, but it looks like that you don't. What can help preventing a wreck? Fixing the fault on the fly?

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

There's another train of thought though. The default limp mode that OEMs use is just cookie cutter approach. I will not be surprised if the mentioned ECU flush would incorporate something like "get the most you can, given the actual amount of useable air". This would be better then just reducing...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Ok, how's that helps in situations like this? Mind you, there is NO more power when one intake valve provides air for a double amount of fuel, regardless of your wants or needs or complaints. Even if exhaust valves burn through because of all extra fuel, there's no power way out of this...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

I see. So that's what normally everyone does when they get a hiccup from the engine on the long trip. Just cancel everything and tow to the dealer. Spending a day or two there, depending. Well, not if the car runs fine on re-start, I don't think so.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Ok, then let the oil be flooded with fuel and the cat killed in no time? That's in addition to severely less then expected power at WOT anyway? I'm not sure this is better solution.

I thought he did just that, which resulted in a camera re-program... Not sure how it helped dislodged rocker arm though.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Huh, I wonder if the oil pressure is too low at certain conditions to de-activate CD, would it not also be too low to lubricate downsized crank shaft bearings at the same time during high-load operation... Extrapolating, but what if there is a possibility of cumulative excessive wear?...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

That's a tax on the engine output that it can't overcome with just two cylinders being active. Air resistance is huge.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

The affected valve stays closed all the times. The second valve does all the work in this case. At low speed that's enough of air for stoichiometric ratio. At WOT the air flow is not sufficient, hence the limp mode.
