    My new ghetto shifter

yep, grind off the lip and it'll go right into place. I suggest putting a good thick high temp grease on the ball though. I sprayed lithium grease on it and I've now gotten a few squeaks out of it. I'll put some axle grease on it soon. As for the monster knob, I debated buying one. The resin...

Need help with good STRONG tires

yeah, put it on a trailer and buy a car for actual driving. I bet the strut mounts are all deformed now if you are using it as a daily. There's a reason people trailer their goofy show cars around. That is not a daily, and if you can't afford a separate daily then you can't afford that hobby.

i need pics of your aftermarket head units!

you already have an amp pushing power to the speakers, so buying it for the power is pointless. If you like the 6cd and stock look (no thieves) then stick with it. Buy an aux mod or something so that you can access your mp3s. The sound quality from mp3 is less than cd usually so it won't be a...

    HOW-TO: Install a MX-6 Rear Strut Tower Bar in a Protege5

Yep, doable, but has a few flaws. 1. I don't weld, don't plan on buying a welder either. 2. The stock brackets are raised 1/2" above the strut mount surface so there is no direct connection with the body. 3. The seatbelt "cup" lip isn't all that strong. Hence being able to bend it with a...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Took and hour and swapped out the blown front struts for Tokico Blues. So much nicer to have parts that work.

Are Tokico HP (blue) worth it over OEM KYB?

I took an hour yesterday and changed my front struts over to the Tokico blues. Of course, going from blown to working gives a nice improvement in feel. I won't be able to test between good oem and good blues unfortunately. Here's my thoughts: The slightly decreased strut travel in the front...

    Protecting paint on long trips

or you can buy a bra and as long as it is only used on a clean car for that one trip at a time then you are good. The bras will scratch the paint once they are left on all the time and dirt gets embedded under them. You can still put painters tape under where the bra edges are to protect from...

    Short Shifter Installation

Tip - put a little locktite on the nut when you bolt it back in, it won't loosen up easily that way. If you want to firm up the OEM shifter bushing you might want to try screwing in a few good screws into the rubber outer rings. Cut off the heads and it'll essentially give a high tension fit...

    Short Shifter Installation

go to the highest end performance shop and tell them you have a rare shifter system to install. Get a quote. Look at quote, and laugh the whole time you change out the shifter in their parking lot before you leave. If you pay someone to do this you need to have your tuner card pulled.

    Protege 5 versus newer cars

I have a Protege5 and recently added a Mazda3s hatch. After looking at all the current market options I settled on these for our daily cars. I like to buy used, I like to do my own maintenance and I like the 4 door hatch platform for versatility and family (have a two year old now). Here's my...
