Choices and thoughts on a 2024 CX-5 purchase

CR-V Touring is $40,000. Too expensive for a mass market CUV. Think the CX-5 looks and handles better too, and it is faster, but the Honda gets better MPG.

Choices and thoughts on a 2024 CX-5 purchase

Also considered the RAV4 and CR-V in 2019, and maybe the Outback. Yes, I'm happy with the vehicle after 4 years. Comfortable ride, great handling, quiet, great paint and fit and finish. In my opinion, only Subaru offers comparable value for money, and you have a CVT with fake shifts, and it's...

    Eternal Blue

In my opinion the Soul Red paint looks like it could cost a lot more than it does. One manufacturer whose paint I'm not impressed with is Hyundai. It's not defective but it sure doesn't impress. Just doesn't have the same saturation or reflectivity.

    Eternal Blue

I was actually referring to the panel gaps and not the paint, though I see it wasn't entirely clear in the post. ;) (see here) I've had 2 Lexus models and they are great cars. But I bought both used because they are so expensive new - actually, my CX-5 is the first car I've bought new. What I...

    Eternal Blue

Mazda paint quality is as good as more expensive luxury makes. Zero orange peel, alongside very tight panel gaps - ahead of some other higher volume manufacturers like Toyota and Honda and on par with much more expensive Lexus. I think Soul Red is the most expensive looking color, but I'm not a...

Trying to repair taillight (2023 CX-5)

There should be some 10mm bolts on the inside of the cargo area, and you can use a trim removal tool or flat screwdriver to pop out the clips, which are along the seam where the cover meets the side of the car.

    Changing oil grade? Y/N?

Either one will protect your engine for the recommended oil change interval. I spend the vast majority of my time above extreme freezing temperatures, so I choose 5W-30.

    Changing oil grade? Y/N?

Never said there's any damage using 0W-20. Just said that in my vehicle, 5W-30 is noticeably quieter in normal use, which it is. My opinion and experience.

    Changing oil grade? Y/N?

I agree with your post. It can get below -20F at times in some places in Canada, and yet the CX-9 only uses 5W-30. It's not a magic cutoff number after all. It's a range, and the vast majority of the time most places are above extreme freezing temperatures. As I said in the other thread, the...

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Ford switched from 5W-20 to 5W-30 in all of their 3.5NA 6-cylinder engines. EDIT: Also in all of their 5.0L V8s. Just some anecdotal information. It has no bearing on which oil I choose I just find it interesting. Mazda says that either grade of oil is acceptable, so use the one you want.

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Yeah, that's the factory fill. I bought the car in 2019 and didn't switch to 5W-30 until 2022.

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Yes, it makes a huge difference. I could tell the difference as soon as I started the vehicle for the first time with the 5W-30. Much quieter. High frequency hearing varies and some people will be able to tell more of a difference. For me, the car sounds much more refined with that quieter...
