    Replacing rear wiper

I bought a replacement but can't seem to remove the old one from the rear. I expected it to slide out like the ones on the windshield. If I apply any more force, I might break it. 🤦

    Mazda Oil Filter questions

I have used mostly non Mazda filters. The Mazda filters that I have used are made in Thailand. I like oil filters with large inlet holes, large filter media, and holes instead of louvers on the inner tube.

What have you done to your CX-3 today?

On Monday I drained the first round of VRP after about 5K miles. Took the OEM filter out but couldn't cut it open with the specialty tool. Did the blade go dull after cutting open only 3 filters? Or is the can particularly strong? Will try one more time tomorrow before using the circular saw. 🤦...

    Oil pressure?

Mazda was so confident with the CX-3 that they felt no need to display the engine oil pressure/temp and coolant temp on the dashboard. 😅 I have to get the values from an OBDII device/app. I have tried a few apps but none is showing the oil pressure. The closest item I get is the "oil pressure...

2018 Mazda CX-5 Various Electrical Issues

For my 2017 CX-3, the original battery started to act out in 6/2023. Over the span of a couple of months, every time I finished loading/unloading from the hatch, the car would need to get jump-started. The hatch mechanism seems to draws quite a bit of wattage when left unlocked for more than...

Valvoline's "Restore & Protect" syn oil cleans engines

Ah I just realized that I can use the same tool to cut the end caps off. Otherwise I should have a hand saw somewhere.

Consumer Reports says Mazda is the safest brand

I was told that Volvos are strong and indestructible like tanks. One relative of mine rolled her Volvo in the snow and survived with minor bruises. She wasn't even wearing the seatbelt. A few years after the rollover, I went to visit and rode in her newer Volvo SUV. She took a clover-leaf exit...

Valvoline's "Restore & Protect" syn oil cleans engines

Did you cut open the filter media too (removing the end caps and core)? I am curious how the inner layer looks when compared to the outer layer. My sharpest knife is currently used to cut salmon pieces for sashimi and poke. Might need to pry open the end caps instead.

Valvoline's "Restore & Protect" syn oil cleans engines

I am close to the end of my first 5K OCI of VRP 5w30. There isn't any noticeable difference from my last cycle with Idemitsu. The plan is to cut open the OEM filter to see for myself and also get a sample for UOA.

    Shifting in cold weather

Thanks! I wasn't familiar with reprogramming. So hard shifting in cold weather is more of a bug?

    Shifting in cold weather

Is it worth trying in the current scenario (cold weather and new-to-op car)? If not, what is the reprogramming that Yo'sDad was referring to? 😁

    Shifting in cold weather

The reprogramming mentioned above *is NOT what I thought* can be found here: Thread 'Transmission reset/relearn procedure for 2016 Mazda CX-5' DIY - Transmission reset/relearn procedure for 2016 Mazda CX-5

    Shifting in cold weather

For my CX-3, the blue light goes out when the coolant temp gets up to 130. Then it stays steady around 195 unless traffic slows. The ATF temp, on the other hand, climbs very slowly. It was still below 100 when I was ten minutes into a drive and at highway speed.

    Shifting in cold weather

If the temp gets that low my legs will need more time to warm up. 🥶

    Shifting in cold weather

Folks here would want to know how cold it was. I haven't dealt with anything below 35°F. 🙂

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

I am on my first round of VRP 5w30 with OEM filter. 2K more miles to go in 5K interval. Next filter will have a nylon cage. 😬

How many Drain & Fills before full transmission/filter service?

There was nothing alarming. The magnet had some fine hair on it but the filter was in good shape. The very first D/F was after 153K miles (my bad) when shifting became sluggish. The report was posted in the tranny fluid analysis thread. If you have done D/F regularly and shifting is smooth...

How many Drain & Fills before full transmission/filter service?

I replaced the filter at close to 160K miles mainly because one shop told me that the pan was leaking. It was a task that I dreaded and took 2+ months of mental prep to be ready. Trust issues made me the person I am today. 😅

    Does size matter?

I have seen bigger filters on bigger cars and thought the oil filter on ours is adequate. 🤷 Those who use after market oil filters are usually familiar with the larger size that still fits. I have used all sorts of after market filters and while they all look about the same size on the outside...
