    2016 Infotainment problems

I can't access audio files on my iPhone via the USB connection. The system reports no audio files found. I can get them to play via Bluetooth, but have to start them playing on the phone.

Traded in my MY15 for an MY16 and ended up with a grand in my pocket...

Glad you made it through this relatively OK. It seems to always work out that the idiot who causes the accident has the least insurance coverage. I wonder what the system tells the 911 operator when the call is made. Ideally it would provide the operator with GPS location information, so they...

    Free Permaplate - Do it?

There seems to be much urban myth and many outlandish claims for various paint sealants. What I have never seen is something like an electron microscope examination of surfaces coated with these sealants to see how long they actually persist on painted metal exposed to the elements. The cynic in...

2016 CX5 Nav losing sat signal

Most GPS units save a file showing its last position, which makes it lock on quicker when turned on again. I sometimes take my Garmin when I travel by air to use in rental cars. It takes a long time to lock on the satellites when its last used position was 1000's of miles away.

2016 CX5 Nav losing sat signal

I think the GPS antenna is behind the center speaker grill. Is anything in your car blocking its view to the sky?

    2016 CX5 LED headlights

Though I've never seen a rating for Mazda's LED headlights, a lot of LED's for automotive use are rated at about 25,000 hours or more. HID's, on the other hand, are usually rated around 2,500 hours. If the ratings for LED's are even close to correct, they should last longer than the vehicle...

Switched Fuse in the inside fuse box?

I tapped into that fuse box to install a radar detector. I think I used the uppermost fuse block that was empty; I don't recall the number. I'd verify it goes off with the ignition using a VOM. The bare metal bolt securing the fuse box to the firewall is a good place to tap into a ground. I had...

    The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

It pulls straight out. It's sometimes hard to get a good grip on the glass because it is slippery and you are afraid of breaking it, with the required trip to the ER to get the glass out of your finger. Try wearing rubber gloves, which should give you a better grip and protect your fingers if...

    The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

Supposedly another option to resistors is a LED compatible flasher, which aren't very expensive if you can find the right replacement and can access the OEM flasher. Does anyone know where the flasher is mounted in the CX-5? It's usually mounted somewhere behind the dash.

    New car got keyed

I did worse damage to my new CX-5 trying to get the lawnmower back in the garage without moving the cars. I found a place that specialized in prepping cars for dealers and they buffed out the scratch for $50. I can't even see where it was in bright sunlight. Not my most expensive stupid mistake...

    The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

I installed this interior LED set last night am very impressed. The light is very bright and I like the color much better. A well spent $14.

    Info buttons on steering wheel

I wish Mazda would offer a software update to allow more information to be displayed. For instance, I'd like to display my speed digitally. I now leave it set to show miles left on remaining fuel, but since the fuel gauge is immediately under it, the information is a bit duplicative.

Wheels Covered With Plastic Film From Factory?

That's exactly where I saw what looked like plastic film. It really does not look like peeling clear coat. Based on past experience removing plastic film like this, it will be a PITA to remove.

Wheels Covered With Plastic Film From Factory?

I gave my '16 GT its first good cleaning yesterday. It looked like one of the wheels had a clear plastic film on it, which is starting to peel away. Is that the case and, if so, should I remove it? My car got a very cursory pre-delivery prep. I checked the tire pressure and all tires were 10+...

    Best oil

How much distance do you guys who use synthetics go between oil changes? Porsche recommends 10,000 miles or 1 year in my Cayman S using Mobil 1, and I'm guessing their engineers figure in a lot more engine thrashing than you'd expect in a Mazda SUV.

    2016 CX-5 Oil Change Frequency

If you go to the App screen on the infotainment system you can activate a function that will recommend when to change your oil based on how the car is driven and give you a reminder on the screen when that time comes. This function was not activated by default but I turned it on the first day I...

    87, 89 or 91 octane?

I sometimes confer with an expert who has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and has been involved with the Society of Automotive Engineers. According to him, buying gas with a higher octane than your engine requires does nothing but line the pockets of the oil companies, who generally seem to be...

2016 Touring Tech Package (US) - Worth it?

Another factor in favor of LED's vs. HID's is the expected life of the "bulbs." Though LED headlights are a fairly recent development, LED's themselves have been used for years. LED's are expected to last 10-20 times longer than HID's and even more than that compared to halogens. Even if you...

LED interior lights for new 2016 GT CX5?

I'm also waiting for the first brave soul to try this. Mazda may have installed a blinker system that will take LED's, with an eye to adding that in the future.
