Nah, I only own an RX-8 (and a Civic) and I'm looking for something a little less stressful and more efficient, lol. Considering the CX-5, as I love the handling, but I dunno how to give up nearly 100 hp ;)
Have you looked at the Kia Sportage SX? I forget the power and price, but I think it's...
The odd thing is the CX-5 didn't feel all that different than my RX-8 in casual driving, as below 5,000 rpm the RX-8 doesn't make much power either... and in normal driving I rarely push it above 5,000 rpm.
Of course the difference is if I DO need power to merge onto a highway, it's available...
Keep in mind that the automatic has a manual mode which lets you hold a gear until you tell it to shift. Not quite the same "feel" as a manual though.
I feel pretty much the same as you, I'm borderline on getting one just because the power is so iffy for high-speed merging and passing. I LOVE...
The other complaint I often read is that the engine is too loud when accelerating, and yet I notice that the CX-5 tied for being the quietest both at full throttle and when cruising at 70 mph.
Yes, and in fact I noticed that while the CX-5 was the slowest 0-60, it in fact beat and/or tied some of the others (Escape, CR-V, Tuscon, Sportage, RAV4) in nearly every other "power" test, such as 0-30, 0-100, 5-60 and 30-50.
I see the BLUETOOTH AUDIO PACKAGE includes a 5.8" Color Monitor when building a Sport trim. But what does the monitor actually do on the Sport Trim? Does that include the Backup Camera and/or the various user-preference functions for lighting, etc.?
What color are the lighted gauges (tach, speedometer, etc.) at night?
They looked white to me (though I've only seen them in daylight), but I read an article which said they were lighted blue... ?
Yes, this ^^^^^ :)
And also Advanced Keyless Entry (opening doors with keys in pocket) for Touring. Rumor says the 2013 Mazda3 will get it for lesser trims, so maybe the CX-5 will too.
And a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G engine option. Rumored to be coming as an option for the new Mazda6 too, but I dunno...
Autoweek mentions at: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20120302/CARREVIEWS/120309971
"Interestingly, unlike many soft-roading-oriented AWD setups, the CX-5 isn't merely FWD until the rear wheels are needed. To maximize efficiency, Mazda's engineers found that under differing loads and...
The MazdaUSA site lists it as Rack & Pinion with Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS).
As far as I know, my RX-8 is fully electric. I'd assumed the CX-5 was the same kind of Mazda unit?
For those of your with leather seats, do they get unbearably hot in the sun? Is it an inconvenience in summer months?
I was planning on getting the Touring trim as I prefer cloth seats, but I like that passive keyless entry option badly enough to consider the Grand Touring... ;)
Nah, me neither. I average around 21 mpg... which isn't great compared to today's cars, but good for an RX-8, and not unheard of for a sports car.
The CX-5 appeals to me though partly because of the higher driving position - I didn't realize what I was missing until I drove one. And the CX-5...
RX-8 driver here too, and curious about the CX-5 for similar reasons. It's interesting how many RX-8 people I see interested in the CX-5. I swore I'd never, ever drive a CUV, lol.
And I had the same "What power problem?" experience on my test drive(s) ;)
I've been lurking on a number of...
