    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

The Duryea Hill Climb (or maybe Pagoda?) in PA is, I think, either the same weekend or 1 weekend either side of Chasing the Dragon. I'd love to make it out to some PHA events sometime, they seem to put on a great show.

Which hill climb? Chasing the Dragon in Robbinsville, NC

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

(rlaugh) Still no. Timetable's always been to tear it down to start this properly *AFTER* the hill climb in August. I'm just starting to work on some of the finnicky out-of-the-car stuff while I'm here. Probably going to tackle the oil pump / chain tensioner / sump / oil pickup next, but that's...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Good news: KMiata is having another subframe sent out today. While I wait for that to come in, I figure I might as well do some of the small things. I have a depowered NB rack as specced out for the subframe mounts, but didn't realize (until reading through the full documentation) that the 2...

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

I got the plates welded in. Welding upside down sucks donkey balls, but other than that it wasn't too hard of a job. Had the first opportunity to run the welder on 120V. Seemed to do the job fine and, somehow, never tripped the 15A garage breaker  It was a multi-step process of figuring...

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

Time to fix the new D-ring mounts properly that I added to the trailer. They're listed as 6000 lb load each, but uh...the plywood they're bolted through isn't. I tried it for last month's TT event, but it really didn't give me the warm fuzzies seeing the floor flex when strapping the front of...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

SITREP: Good news: I got the bores cleared out. Bad news: they're banana shaped and the bolts won't go in. The bolts bind up solid as soon as they get to the 2nd weld, so it's super warped :( I could bash it in with a hammer, but that's going to lead to some serious suspension bind. And I...

How long before you go full on with the gauges? :D

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

It's finally getting close enough that I want to get started on prep work for this project since I've got most of the parts needed now. The first bit of prep was the steering rack, and so as to not lose the NB rack bolts I figured I'd put the bolts into the threaded holes in the V8R-sourced...

What have you done to your Miata today?

That someone would be correct. Nyloc is pretty dependable, but not when heat's involved.

What have you done to your Miata today?

It really is one of the prettiest NBs I've seen. That wing is perfect. Better than the ugly ass OEM, but not all crazy boy-racer. I love it :D

What have you done to your Miata today?

For you track day folks, you know the pain of paddocking and sometimes having to jack up cars on soft soil. I had built a set of wood 'platforms' to go under jack-stands when paddocked on soft surfaces. I realized this weekend that my race jack just barely has the throw, if everything is...

What have you done to your Miata today?

A small steel bushing / sleeve to take up the slack should do the trick for that.

Dang, is that the water pump seal? For the diff, it looks like it wasn't RTV'd properly, but that shouldn't be a terrible fix (other than possibly dropping the axle)

...there's a Miata joke somewhere in there (rlaugh)

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

Got this done this weekend. Used the trailer to haul a couple beds to the Salvation Army and take a 45 min or so interstate test drive. It's WAAAY happier on the 3.36 than it was on the 2.94. It's not a huge bump, but the 600 RPM bump at 70 means it's got enough juice to maintain and gain a few...

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

I dunno about that. Let's say it's more "fool resistant" than most (rlaugh) Gimme enough tools and enough time and I could crack that nut, but the idea is to be slightly less attractive than the alternatives. Of course, this also helps as a security feature :D

I've aquired a small new tongue lock.... It covers the coupler so you can't get a pry bar in, secures the chains so they can't be used to snatch it, and is made of 1/4" steel, with a billet aluminum lock body. Nothing's 100% fool proof, but it's a pretty good deterrent :)

That's kinda the secret to the Dragon. It's the famous one, for some reason, but it isn't even the best road in its vicinity :D

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

I didn't set out to build the Atlanta Region a new clubhouse, but sometimes you just luck into things :D The first outing was a great success. I couldn't be happier. I found a couple of small storage tweaks that need to be made here and there for securing a couple things, but no real...
