What have you done to your Miata today?

Cool, I've got a bunch of friends who'll be there. Next weekend (Aug 10/11) is the hill climb, so this weekend's all prep for me

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Finished the Wang install. Trimmed the trunk and got everything bolted back together. About all I need to do is grab some touch-up paint and clean up the bits I hat to cut to clear the uprights. I gave this no chance of actually working while cutting, but pulling the straps tight kept the trunk...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Back to the engine: got the oiling & timing system buttoned up for the time being. It looks pretty scabby on the outside (despite my best efforts to clean it...this engine needs a hot tank BADLY), but it's clean of oil and grease, and all the important bits were cleaned up and installed with new...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Sort of like a diff or trans fill where the top plug is essentially the 'high water mark'. With the aftermarket pan, the stock dipstick doesn't really mean much anymore, so that's the 'full' mark.

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Finally starting to move in the right direction of putting stuff ONTO the motor vs taking stuff off. Water pump housing and oil pan are on.

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Picked up the Nine Lives Racing Big Wang this morning. Still waiting on the 2nd elements to come back in stock, but once they do that'll go on as well :D

Not KMiata content as much as XP content, but these are currently being CNC'd :D

lmao, wrong thread. I'm a dingus. Didn't even realize I'd posted it here. It's this thread: https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123868684-KMiata-SCCA-Solo-XP-swap

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

I thought I was done with the rack, until I had one of those "oh s***, you dumbass" realizations while drifting off to sleep last night. There is a shoulder on the new style Inner Tie Rod locking washers that goes on the OD of the rack, vs the old style washers that sat on the OD of the tie...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Steering rack's ready to go (minus a couple zip ties to secure the boots). New inner tie rods, new R Package outer tie rods, and my home-brew steering limiters.

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

I've got the oil pump swapped. RSX TypeS pump (compare it to the stock TSX monstrosity in my previous post): KMiata's billet oil pump housing to work with their oil pickup (to go over the steering rack). The stock TypeS pump pickup sticks straight back, which would go through the steering...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

The new subframe came in on Friday as I was leaving to spend the weekend at the lake w/ the family, so no checking got done, but: No hammer or clearanceing needed! A couple of the threaded holes needed the threads chased, and some of the lower control arm bolts are a hair tight (that'll just...

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

I can't speak for everyone, obviously, but I'd say 6/10 of my racing friends are IT or engineering professionals. Probably 2/10 are in the medical fields.

    20' Enclosed Race Trailer "Build"

Thanks guys. If anything, my story is one that shows any schmoe can do this stuff, and hopefully not let other schmoes be as intimidated by big projects. I'm an IT guy, this stuff is way outside my wheelhouse, but there's a TON of info out there for folks to learn from <3

I also realized that the engine I got from the scrapper didn't come with the water pump housing. Or rather, I realized, looking at the shape of the new water pump, and the shape of the whacking great big hole on the side of the engine, that there was at least 1 piece missing (rlaugh) Did a...

    KMiata SCCA Solo XP swap

Got the engine torn down as far as I need to: Including the mahoosive oil-pump & counter-balance shaft assembly. That thing is...not light. Now to spend a lot of quality time cleaning HondaBond and oil off of parts and reassembling things.

Finally broke the seal on the motor. And despite having drained it, completely I thought, after first getting it... Maybe there was a bunch stored inside that massive oil pump, that after flipping it over a couple times for various reasons, broke free? I dunno, but I didn't think I needed...
