sweet! under 17k, and you got 150hp and 4-wheel disks?! :) They must be very aggresive about their marketing. 17k is extremely cheap for that car. I'd actually like a high seating position. Just not so high that it feels like your back is against a wall.

Everyone seems to be giving US prices :) I'd say 23k is a bit high. MSRP should be listed on the webpage (www.mazda.ca). I think it was about 21K or so.

The Canada website for the Mazda 3 says that there's two engines... the 2.0L or the 2.3L... I think. someone correct me if I'm wrong. What I'm hoping is that Mazda will offer a base car for the same price as the current Mazda base car (17k CDN), while offering it with the 2.0L engine and 4...

The chassis is based on the Ford Focus chassis or something like that, right? Handling could be very different. Could Focus parts be swap-able??

Can't seem to find much info on the 2.0L engine specs. Just wondering what they are for the new 2.0L engine coming out for the Mazda3? I've read it has 150hp, but how much torque?

I'm confused. All the local guys in my area say that Proteges suffer from a lot of problems (or have little niggling problems, says one protege owner). General consensus here is that the Mazda Protege has problems. Yet I come on the boards and everyone says that they're "da bomb"! No problems...

Does it improve performance a lot?

dang... 25000 bucks CDN?! That's comparable to a Subaru Impreza 2.5RS 25k is quite hefty, IMO.

Just how big a depreciation has the Mazda Protege 5 taken? I'm thinking that because there's like a million on the road (Atleast in Canadian Northwest), and the new Mazda 3 is coming out, I could possibly "bargain" for a really good price? I can't find the proper Protege price, but the VMR one...
