Wipers with a mind of their own

Random activation of the wipers like the original post, or is your issue isolated to only when the rain sensing feature is on? Sorry, original post was hard to pin down for me. Describe what you’ve got going on and let’s see if folks chime in. My mother in laws light/rain sensor fell off the...

    2018 CX-5 152K miles Scoped Cylinders, Carbon Buildup...Advice?

Have you tried a fuel injector cleaner yet? You could give that a shot for carbon there, but I doubt it’ll clean a significant amount of what is around the injector. I’d be interested to see a before and after shot of that. Walnut blasting won’t clean what’s under the intake valves, sorry if...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I’m guessing it’s a casting defect on some heads. Air bubble or something in the thin wall. Honda Odysseys had a casting defect that reared its ugly head around 60k miles for a period of time for a certain model year.

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Some of the recent 2.5 liter NA engines don’t have cylinder deactivation, but to be honest I haven’t kept up with whether or not the block on those is a different design. It could be in this thread but I didn’t commit it to memory.

    Yes a 2023 CX-5 Oil Change Thread

Hate to burst your bubble, but it appears the Purolator Boss has the lowest filtration efficiency in their product line below 46 microns: BITOG discussion: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/purolator-boss-pbl24651-6-075miles-c-p.378865/page-2 Spec sheet for a Boss filter from that...

2019 CX-5 Need tips on taking over maintenance after 50K miles

Whoa whoa, pump the brakes. You’re likely fine. Was that Felix’s video? If so, I think he’s in the Philippines and drives in 100% city situation, like never gets it to highway speeds. All stop and go, likely all short trips. I followed his procedure to clean my ‘13 at 68k miles when I was...

2019 CX-5 Need tips on taking over maintenance after 50K miles

I started keeping a physical binder for each of my cars. It helps so much having the part numbers right there when I need to reorder. I get a sense of satisfaction adding things to it like a scrapbook: invoices from OEM part orders, UPC/PN cutout from the part box itself, etc.

    2017 CX-5 vs 2024?

Personally I’d stick with the 17 if you’re happy with it. I hate car payments! Our RAV4 was a planned expense but my ‘13 CX-5 getting totaled was unexpected. I love my ‘23 Turbo: it’s so peppy, sporty, and quiet. But my barebones ‘13 Sport was paid off and reliable : ( As I get older I’m...

    CX-5 NA Oil weight 0w20 or 5w30?

Yikes. I think the question was just about if 5w-20 was ok to use. Not the 0w-20 for US owners or 5w-30 pretty much everywhere else question.

    CX-5 NA Oil weight 0w20 or 5w30?

It was at one point for sure. My ‘05 Focus took 5w-20.

    CX-5 NA Oil weight 0w20 or 5w30?

Nope. 0w-20 will flow a little faster at startup, but 0w-20, 5w-20, 5w-30 are fine. The first ~60k of my old 13’s life in central Florida was spent using exclusively 0w-20. Mind if I ask why you’d like 5w-20? I prefer 0w-20 myself when it’s called for, but folks usually whole hog and go 5w-30 if...

2019 CX-5 Need tips on taking over maintenance after 50K miles

Serpentine belt depending on condition. Likely fine now, I’d check it at 60k miles

New here and looking at the CX-5

That’s really good to know, I had no idea my car even did that. I only ever try for it 55+

New here and looking at the CX-5

As an owner of both a ‘21 RAV4 Hybrid and a ‘23 CX-5 Turbo, you can’t go wrong with either model. It all boils down to what you want most. Practicality/reliability (Toyota) or sportiness mid-level luxury/reliability (Mazda)? I didn’t plan it this way but we have the best of both worlds with each...

Transmission Fluid Change at 110,000 Miles? 2014 AWD CX-5

You’ve got your answer there in your thought process. Drain and measure cold, and refill with the same amount of cold fluid will replace what came out (the volume will vary if the fluid is at different temperatures). It if wasn’t accurate from the factory, it won’t be the right amount going back...

    Cracked Engine Block (2018 CX-5)

We will thankfully never know if my mother in laws ‘18 CX-5 GT block would crack. She sold it recently with about 68k miles on the odometer; she wanted a vehicle that she could flat tow behind her RV. No signs of any engine issues during all miles of ownership. No oil consumption. I changed her...

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

I agree with madar. That sounds like a symptom of short trips and will happen with any oil. Very common over on the RAV4 forums, funky gunk up in the underside of the oil cap. I’ve fortunately not had any gook in the cap of my vehicles, no oil consumption, never an engine issue due to oil use...

Be glad you have a CX-5

I replaced the touchscreen in my mother in laws 2018 for less than $250. It was the whole screen and exterior shell, none of the electronics like the circuit board the screen plugs into. Does the first gen not have a cost effective kit like the second gen? Sorry, don’t want to get off topic but...

Off Topic So slow I'm ashamed...

My case with it’s measly two front fans and one rear fan XD It keeps the 5800 CPU below 70 C and the 3080 GPU in the 60s, but it probably isn’t anywhere near quiet as yall’s rigs. The cooler master 212 does a really good job in junction with the case but wouldn’t want to game without a headset...

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Agreed. I’ve been a fan of Mobil 1 and stocking up each year during their rebate offers. I continue to use Mobil 1 0w-16 in my hybrid RAV4 and I’m now using Castrol Edge 5w-30 in the 23 CX-5 turbo. Castrol supposedly has a really good formulation for preventing deposits, something I’m interested...
