    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

The 2.5L Naturally Aspirated Skyactiv is spec'd to use 0w20 and 5w30 with 5w20 as a backup option per the manual. In my opinion, 0w20 is purely a cafe thing in the US. I've been using 5w30 in my CX-5 since 2019 now.

    Changing front struts, any recommendations?

Yeah I don't even live in an area that uses straight up salt (we use mag chloride), but still had plenty of rust and I had a hell of a time getting any of the LCA bolts off even with high torque impacts / air impacts. It's not a fun job. I try to get the underside of the car cleaned off after a...

    Changing front struts, any recommendations?

Makes sense if your bushings are torn. This is what they looked like on my CX-5 when I pulled the originals off.

    Changing front struts, any recommendations?

The end links were toast too and the struts were wearing out..though not leaking. I did the LCAs myself (a job I never want to do again let me tell you) along with the end links. Ended up paying a shop to do the struts and an alignment. I wonder if there's some sort of maintenance that can be...

    Changing front struts, any recommendations?

When both my front LCA's had torn bushings, the cornering was very sloppy. I wouldn't want to stay driving on torn bushings. My CX-5's LCA's were good until summer of 2024. I bought the car in April 2013, so the originals lasted me a good ~130k miles. Did the end links and front struts with...

    Changing front struts, any recommendations?

I think quick struts are hit or miss. For suspension parts my vote is OEM.

2013~2016 CX-5 New Spark Plug Time

Interesting. I decided to stick with the Iridium Laser plugs, but this is good to know.

2013~2016 CX-5 New Spark Plug Time

Well it's that time again. Another 75,000 miles down for the interval and it's time for me to change out the plugs. I'll post a picture again when I take them out, but I just want to confirm that at my 75k change, I bought Mazda OEM plugs and they had the NGK 94124 / ILKAR7L11 right underneath...

Official 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pics and Details Released

Yep my 2014 has a build date of Jan 2013. I bought it in April 2013. It was basically a mid-year refresh of the 2013 that introduced the 2.5L as the 2013s only had the 2.0L. The years didn't re-align until the Gen 2 released with the 2017.

They would be wise to do so. Good on Subaru.

Yeah I think some of us hoped Mazda would be the one manufacturer to know better but here we are. C'est la vie indeed.

Official 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pics and Details Released

"The past". As defined by who? Literally nobody I have ever talked to says "you know what I wish I had in my car? A giant iPad!" As far as I can tell, the actual consumer doesn't want that. The whole thing runs contrary to why Mazda designed the Commander Knob to begin with. Gen 4, now with a...

2013~2016 Replacing CX-5 Driver and Passenger side mirrors

Part of my problem is I've probably damaged the housing with all the hits its taken over the years so replacing the whole thing makes sense for me. What aftermarket units did you go with. This is where I am a bit in analysis paralysis. Found plenty that support BSM, integrated turn signal...

Official 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pics and Details Released

Gen 1 version is best version. Change my mind. 😂 I've driven a few Gen 2's (with the 2.5L NA) and compared to my 2014 which is just the 2.5L NA as well, they felt really sluggish to get up and go from a stop. I kinda hated it. Sport mode made it better but the difference was shockingly...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

I never did any of that. First oil change was at 5k. Engine seems fine. That said, in the future I would probably follow a similar schedule for the break in period knowing more now than I did back then.

Any tips for changing spark plugs?

Thank you for this. I am gearing up to do my spark plugs again at 150k miles and was looking into a proper 14mm socket. I already got some locking extensions so will forgo the tape job this round hopefully. :ROFLMAO:

Official 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pics and Details Released

I mean it's still a CX-5, not a new model. When the Gen 2's came out their big thing over Gen 1 was the sound dampening and better interior materials, and an updated exterior design / grill.
