Replacing CX5 OEM battery with a Group 35 AGM equivalent

Ha! So since this post started I started to notice that my CX-5 was just a touch slower turning over than it has been. It got worse as the temps dropped. So I got out my tester today and tested my Duralast AGM, 4-year old (12/22/16) battery and yup, it's bad. Headed to Walmart to pick up an $89...

    Ignition gremlin

I'd keep it even simpler than some of the others here. As noted, check that all of the electrical connectors are snug at the coils, at the ECU and at the battery. I'd also disconnect the battery for a while and see if the code appears again after reconnecting the battery resets everything. This...

Unexplained noise while driving...Wind noise, squealing?

Had a Taurus wagon once with a similar sound. Turned out to be the roof rack.

    2013~2016 CX-5 Belt Tensioner - Shouldn't this be a warranty item?

Might be a tough call. My Gates works perfectly - no issues whatsoever.

SunTek vs. 3M (Front end film protection)

I've had 3M on the front of mine since new (August 2013). Zero issues whatsoever. Still looks great!

2016 CX-5 Sport Oil Light not on

Interesting that both high note and low note horns are shown. I pretty sure GEN 1 only came with one as there were posts on here about how to add a second horn. GEN 2 had both?

    2013~2016 CX-5 Belt Tensioner - Shouldn't this be a warranty item?

I know everyone's experiences can be different and YMMV, but I feel that I must add my experience to this post in the interest of balance. I did replace my original tensioner, which was leaking slightly, with the Gates tensioner at 81K miles. There is no difference in the engine...

2013~2016 Anyone install Ruthenium Spark Plugs yet?

Nice writeup Dig. I do detect one flaw in your conclusion about the performance of your new plugs: you disconnected the battery! Perhaps I'm wrong and you used a tender to maintain power in the vehicle, but if you didn't then the vehicle has reverted to "learning mode" and hence a direct...

2016 Mazda CX-5 clock keeps advancing time

I had to laugh when these 2 posts showed up together! Seems Mazda has applied whatever speedup logic they put in the clock to the latest CX-5s!

    2017 Brake/Rotor replacement at 105k miles - recommendations? Rockauto?

I ordered some stuff from Rock Auto not too long ago. After a bit they send you a 5% discount code. Anyone can use it but they do expire after a bit. Here's the code I got and it's good through 12/20/2020. Code: 15497388656079894

    2021 CX-5 Key Battery Low

One thing we've heard of on here: if you keep your fob in the house but still somewhat near the vehicle in the garage, it may be constantly communicating with the vehicle because it's in range and wear down the battery. Just a thought.

Replace the inserts, not the entire wipers

I got my 2014 CX-5 in August, 2013. It has 82k miles and I've replaced the wiper inserts once about 2-3 years ago. No streaking. Ever. I live in Minnesota - we have snow.

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

Just found out that Costco's oil is made by the same folks as Amazon's oil: Warren Oil Company. Right now Costco's 0W-20 full synthetic SN+ oil is $26.99 delivered for 2 5-quart jugs vs $22.99 for 1 5-quart jug of Amazon basics oil.

    Floorliners for 2021 CX-5 GT

You should check with Mazda and see if their floor mats have the same part numbers for the 20s and 21s. If they do, then you can be pretty much assured that nothing has changed dimension-wise.
