2nd Gen CX-5 Front Grille Replacement

Anybody replaced the grille on their second gen CX-5 and have some tips on replacement process? My car took a rock to the face last week and I’m fortunate it didn’t hit the emblem, paint, or bust straight through to the condenser. The gloss black part for my Turbo goes for north of $500 on some...

    CX-5 Trailer Hitch

I was going to comment something similar. The silicone spray is a must. I muscled them off without any on the 23 and it was a bear. I had to use a lubricant to remove them when I did the hitch on my old ‘13, they wouldn’t budge.

Beauty shot. Washed after yesterday’s log hauling fun. Last day we’ll have a high in the 50s for a while so I sucked it up and enjoyed the mountain mist.

We got a wood burning stove for the house and my awesome neighbor gave us free firewood to get us through the rest of the season. To pay back the favor, I’ll help haul/split/store from here on out. Another good neighbor down the street had several tons of wood rounds he wanted gone. Made four...

    Yes a 2023 CX-5 Oil Change Thread

I use Partsouq to get the bougie Tokyo Roki filters shipped from the UAE. I ordered 12 in bulk to save on shipping costs.

    Yes a 2023 CX-5 Oil Change Thread

This is what I do, I don’t know why the owners manual isn’t up to API SP or recommend GF-6.

    Yes a 2023 CX-5 Oil Change Thread

From the 2025 owners manual: SKYACTIV-G 2.5T Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil. Mazda Genuine Oil is used in your Mazda vehicle. Mazda Genuine 5W-30 Oil is required to achieve optimum fuel economy. For maintenance service, Mazda recommends Genuine Mazda Parts and Genuine Mazda Premium Oil. Only use...

    Does anyone use Direct Mode?

Everything in moderation. My daily drive from home has 1000 ft elevation change over a mile and a half. Putting my car in 3rd gear at the top of the mountain and keeping it there won’t strain the transmission. Rpm’s on the engine stay between 2500-3500, and I don’t drag the brakes the whole way...

Great MPG so far on 2023 CX-5 Turbo

1 oz of Sta-Bil per 10 gallons isn’t bad at all. I think the bottle says to do 2 oz for 5 gallons (got some more ethanol free gas just in case for the generator). You’re right about diesel additives too. I was using Diesel Kleen religiously with my old 98 TDI Jetta. The fuel pump on that was...

The turbo is incredibly capable of towing small loads. Here she is with our new Carry-On wood deck 5x8 utility trailer. I didn’t intend to color match the trailer with the car when I stained it, but it nearly turned out that way. It’s opaque “cape cod gray” exterior wood stain. It looks sharp...

    Does anyone use Direct Mode?

Same, I downshift to third every day for engine braking downhill. Then I press and hold the up shift paddle at the bottom of the mountain to return to standard operation. I never fiddle with the shift knob.

    Off Topic Buc-ee's

I imagine the first Buc-ees experience is much like going to IKEA for the first time. Terrifying and overwhelming 😂 your motorhime was a force multiplier!

    3D printed Mazda Hitch Cover

I 3D printed a Mazda hitch cover for my new 2” etrailer receiver. It looks good! I chose black PETG for durability and muted look. I could’ve printed with supports to prevent some of the stringiness within the logo (I printed it face down so it was basically printing the base of the logo in thin...

Installed eTrailer hitch on 2023 CX-5 Turbo

Great ideas! I wouldn’t have ever thought to plug the harness into the accessory outlet back there. Considering I’ll only need this once a quarter, that’s a great solution. I considered removing the muffler entirely but the hardware seemed incredibly tight. I gave it a quick try and thought...

Installed eTrailer hitch on 2023 CX-5 Turbo

Another 2 hours and I’m finished with the wiring too, Curt 56487. I’m comfortable removing the trim panels to get the wiring done back there, but as I suspected running that 12V lead is a pain. I unscrewed the panel on the underside and ran it up the drivers side. All done and glad I don’t have...
