Installed eTrailer hitch on 2023 CX-5 Turbo

Hey all, I installed an eTrailer branded hitch on my 23 Turbo. Installation took two hours solo. It’s a PITA maneuvering the hitch into place but a simple install if that makes sense. The hardest things to do were sliding the muffler off its rubber mounting points, and pulling the carriage...

    Dealer won't use synthetic oil - 2022 CX-5 Turbo

Castrol Edge on my CX-5 Turbo, supposedly has very low deposits compared to other oil per an obscure Amsoil study I stumbled upon. Wouldn’t hesitate to use Mobil1 or Pennzoil either, I get whatever name brand is cheapest with rebates for my RAV4 hybrid.

2013 CX-5 Diesel 2.2L drove 3000km with the wrong oil

Vavoline link shared earlier, but it’s a really good read to reiterating: https://www.valvolineglobal.com/en-nz/blog/education/dpf-and-engine-oil-explained/#:~:text=WHAT%20HAPPENS%20IF%20THE%20WRONG,be%20able%20to%20be%20driven...

    Dealer won't use synthetic oil - 2022 CX-5 Turbo

And don’t forget to try and stack with rebates! I stocked up with Pennzoil 0w-16 for the RAV4 with their latest promo a couple of months ago. I don’t see any offers right now but I always keep an eye out for them.

    Dealer won't use synthetic oil - 2022 CX-5 Turbo

Not sure what’s more impressive: the synthetic engine looking that much cleaner than the conventional, or that two Ford engines ran 500k miles with only a couple failures :D I’d buy cheap synthetic 5w-30 and ask the service department of your choice to use that. Castrol Edge was like $25 at...

Off Topic Mercedes A200d rental, fun!

Hey all, I’m spending some time in Scotland for vacation and we’re having an incredible time. I usually don’t get great luck with car rentals but this time I got an interesting vehicle and wanted to share. I reserved an automatic compact sedan as I usually do. Just enough for a family of 4 and...

2021 CX-5 CE Turbo - Premium gas required?

Great video! It’s a little unclear how “basic” and “premium” fuels are defined though. After watching through it all I think the “premium” definition of the fuel is it having a friction modifier added. With that in mind I find it important to choose a top tier branded fuel, not necessarily a 87...

Wipers with a mind of their own

That’s incredibly frustrating. Disabling rain sensing via infotainment was the only trick I had up my sleeve.

Poll Will you be paying for the Mazda app?

You would think the subscription service would be free considering how much data is collected and “shared” (I.e. resold). They’re having their cake and eating it too by charging a monthly fee on top of data collection and selling.

Wipers with a mind of their own

Random activation of the wipers like the original post, or is your issue isolated to only when the rain sensing feature is on? Sorry, original post was hard to pin down for me. Describe what you’ve got going on and let’s see if folks chime in. My mother in laws light/rain sensor fell off the...

    2018 CX-5 152K miles Scoped Cylinders, Carbon Buildup...Advice?

Have you tried a fuel injector cleaner yet? You could give that a shot for carbon there, but I doubt it’ll clean a significant amount of what is around the injector. I’d be interested to see a before and after shot of that. Walnut blasting won’t clean what’s under the intake valves, sorry if...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I’m guessing it’s a casting defect on some heads. Air bubble or something in the thin wall. Honda Odysseys had a casting defect that reared its ugly head around 60k miles for a period of time for a certain model year.

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

Some of the recent 2.5 liter NA engines don’t have cylinder deactivation, but to be honest I haven’t kept up with whether or not the block on those is a different design. It could be in this thread but I didn’t commit it to memory.

2019 CX-5 Need tips on taking over maintenance after 50K miles

Whoa whoa, pump the brakes. You’re likely fine. Was that Felix’s video? If so, I think he’s in the Philippines and drives in 100% city situation, like never gets it to highway speeds. All stop and go, likely all short trips. I followed his procedure to clean my ‘13 at 68k miles when I was...

2019 CX-5 Need tips on taking over maintenance after 50K miles

I started keeping a physical binder for each of my cars. It helps so much having the part numbers right there when I need to reorder. I get a sense of satisfaction adding things to it like a scrapbook: invoices from OEM part orders, UPC/PN cutout from the part box itself, etc.

    2017 CX-5 vs 2024?

Personally I’d stick with the 17 if you’re happy with it. I hate car payments! Our RAV4 was a planned expense but my ‘13 CX-5 getting totaled was unexpected. I love my ‘23 Turbo: it’s so peppy, sporty, and quiet. But my barebones ‘13 Sport was paid off and reliable : ( As I get older I’m...

    CX-5 NA Oil weight 0w20 or 5w30?

Yikes. I think the question was just about if 5w-20 was ok to use. Not the 0w-20 for US owners or 5w-30 pretty much everywhere else question.
