2016 Mazda CX-5 Earns "Superior" Rating from IIHS

Would placing the 3M clear front end paint protection film cause any problems with the radar system in the i-ActivSense system?

Factory Order or Dealer Lot Purchase

Called the dealer and they said that the CX5 is still in production but they have no way of contacting Japan and finding out WHERE it is on the assembly line and WHEN it will be ready to ship. That seems weird that a dealership cannot get notification of the cars progress in Japan. A phonecall...

2016 Mazda CX-5 Earns "Superior" Rating from IIHS

Congrats! The i-ActivSense is well worth the $1,500 option. It's always hard to watch footage of perfectly new cars being smashed on purpose but it needs to be done to save lives. New cars can be built in a factory but people cannot. So now Subaru will no longer be top dog with the front...

    2016 bmw x1

It's difficult not to look past the pricing since the loaded BMW is $20k more than the loaded CX5. The X1 will be "faster" than the CX5 with the turbocharged engine. It will also be more "luxurious" in that it will ride quieter just because it's a BMW and that is what they focus on. The...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

What weight # and specific oil do you use on the transfer case? What about the transmission fluid? Mazda supposedly uses 100% synthetic trans fluid. It's dyed a blue color.

Does Mazda put in synthetic oil into the AWD transfer case?

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

The sedan headrests are shorter but the seats are different than the CX5. It all factors in as when the IIHS tests the whiplash factor. In a sedan seat the torso sits lower and deeper into the seat and the headrest doesn't have to be as big because the body is positioned lower and the head...

    Moly Oil From Mazda Factory?

I did an oil analysis with the Moly oil and it had 3x the amount of Molybdenum than regular synthetic oil does.

Can you open trunk from inside?

I can see that. Power lift gates do add more pounds. The other issue is that eventually power liftgates breakdown, not if, but when. They are convenient when carrying something but pressing a button and using a little muscle to lift the gate is not that big of a deal.

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

The reason for the OEM headrests is because they have been studied, engineered, tested and verified by the scientists at IIHS to provide proper head and neck restraints during a collision in a CX5. Again, this argument is moot because NOBODY here knows how a non-spec headrest will perform in a...

    Moly Oil From Mazda Factory?

Idemitsu did the engineering on the oil and made it for Mazda. Due to the tight tolerances, high compression, hot running temps of the SkyActiv engines, the engineers spec'd out the Moly oil. I can attest that the engines run hot. I wish there was an oil temp reading but man, that oil when I...

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

That will not happen 90% of the time. People forget, people don't think about something like that when getting into a vehicle. 99.99% of people don't adjust headrests when entering as a passenger of a vehicle. They get in, put on their seat belt. Plus I go back to the scientific and engineered...

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

After researching more, those shorter non-US-spec head restraints do NOT meet the IIHS safety specs. So it goes without saying, you get them, you take on the liability of any injuries sustained because one modified the safety restraints. Maybe you won't get sued but do you want to tell your...

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

I am very confident that those non-US-spec CX5 headrests DO NOT meet the IIHS requirements. They look cool, are maybe even more practical when folding seats, but they are NOT the ones the IIHS tested in the CX5. Look at the way they are positioned. An occupants head would go snapping back...

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

I don't mean to sound condescending, that is not my intention, but it's common sense that properly sized and fitted head restraints provide occupant safety. If your neck and head go snapping back from a collision, you can face serious neck and head injuries, even death. Proper head restraints...

How To Acquire Non-US Spec Head Restraints for a US-spec CX-5

The US headrests are that size due to safety regulations for head and neck protection in an impact. The non-US-spec headrests don't have the same safety specs so they are smaller in size. I know from years of racing that larger properly supported headrests will prevent you from serious neck...

What did you pay for your CX-5?

The best deals I've seen from this forum are around $2k-$3k below MSRP and that includes all rebates and incentives. The $3k below MSRP is more for a fully loaded GT
