i don't know if canada has craigslist, but it is free to list a car for sale. ebay has a free listing for classified (non-auction), too. you're going to lose money either way, but you'll probably lose more on a trade-in. there are tools online for valueing your car. kbb, edmunds, autotrader...

the 6-cyl comes with a regular 5-speed tranny through 2014. the 2015 is all CVT. i test drove the 4 cyl OB and i didn't care for the CVT, either. truecar has a 2014 6 cyl limited with sunroof at $31.7k. the 2015 CX-5 on truecar is $29.5. so yes there is an 'ouch'. the 2012 i drove has 40k...

you sound like a member of the cult. lol. right now, the oldest i'm willing to look at is a 2012 and only the 6-cylinder. the 2015, a new generation, was announced today. i'm in no rush, so i may wait to see if i can get a deal on a 2014.

i'm seriously considering a subaru outback now. i can get it with a v6 (mpg penalty, of course), reliable, great resale, and off-road capable. new is a lot more $, but a year or two old is a good value.

whenever i test drive a vehicle, and i test drive a lot, i tell them the types of roads i want to go on. i usually drive it for a half hour over flat, curvy, hilly and interstate roads. remember, YOU are the customer.
