There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

In your case the GLI (which basically is a transformer) allows to duplicate the balanced input as an unbalanced output. All it did was shifting the ground reference of the signal. You do need to do that if the amp is not compatible with balanced signal, otherwise the amp will amplify audio + to...

HELP!! Alternator whine w/ new setup

Alright alright, thanks for replying guys, I was starting to feel alone. I'll definitely call you up on that $5 for a beer. Here is what I have found out since posting this: - The head unit (which by the way is made by Sanyo, not Bose) outputs balanced signals, which I confirmed with my meter...

There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

Do you mean that the Bose system uses balanced differential signals?

Audio upgrade complete. Will it hurt the car.

If you ever find a fix to your alternator whine problem, I'd love to hear about it. I am reluctant to use a ground loop isolator and would rather find the true cause of the issue. I also kept the stock HU and am using an Alpine PDX5 amplifier.

There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

Well my theory just blew in pieces. You guys are both right! 1. Grounding the shield didn't do jack 2. I ran a wire from my amp ground to the plug where the 12V/ground for the Bose amp is, and the noise substantially was reduced. Still there but much more bearable. Hint hint. I think if I...

There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

If you could find it that would be great!

There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

It has got to be EMI/RFI. I am going to ground the shield of my RCA to the car chassis later today and see what happens. I found out that my RCA cables are shielded but the shield is not grounded, so it must be acting like a 6ft antenna. Nice.

There cannot be ground loops in the MS3 with the stock HU

This is related to the other post where I was seeking help for alternator whine... I have been reading articles about how alternator whine is most likely caused by ground loops encompassing the HU, the amplifier, the RCA -/shield and the car chassis itself. After dusting off my trusted...

HELP!! Alternator whine w/ new setup

Hi everyone! I am in desperate need of advice to get rid of alternator whine on my new setup. Like many others on this forum I was not overwhelmed by the sonic quality of the Bose system on my MS3 GT. I ditched the Bose amp, subwoofer and speakers and replaced all this by - an Alpine PDX5 amp...

    POLL: Former Protege owners?

I had a 2001 LX 2.0. Bought it used in 2004. Great car, reliable, cheap to own. It sure had fewer rattles than the MS3, and the interior wasn't so prone to scratches, fingerprints and other cosmetic blemishes that seem to pop up out of nowhere in my MS3.

    Trouble with TWM shifter

Just FYI if anybody else gets the same issue: I called TWM and the gentleman - very courteous I must say - I talked to said I am (only) the second person calling about the same issue. Since I've had the shifter installed for just over a week, he recommended to let it break in for a few more...

    Trouble with TWM shifter

Installed the TWM short throw shifter and bushings. Loved it for a couple days until I started having issues with the reverse spring. Sometimes it's either really hard to push the knob down to engage reverse, sometimes it doesn't pop back up coming out of reverse, like the spring is stuck. I...

    removal of front wipers?

Funny, I just removed mine a couple days ago and let me tell you, what a pain that was. Like you said, after removing the nut, the damn wipers wouldn't bulge at all. I didn't want to put too much stress on the posts, so i ended up using a battery terminal lifter. It basically rests on the bolt...

    Stock Tires=Crap

I rotated my tires at 5K~6K, and the front ones were pretty worn out. I anticipate I'll have to change them at 15K at best. 12K is probably more realistic. I also have the stock Bridgestone Potenzas and their treadwear rating is 140, which is ridiculously low.

Redline shift boot, ebrake cover, and armrest installed...

Yes thank you for your kind observation. This was just to show how much extra leather I have to tuck under the latch, hence preventing me from closing it. Does it look like I put it backward?

Redline shift boot, ebrake cover, and armrest installed...

Thanks. Here are some pics. It looks alright except that I can't close it. Is the seam of the elastic band supposed to be facing front or back? I tried to turn it around but it just looks goofy.

Redline shift boot, ebrake cover, and armrest installed...

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and just bought a used 2008.5 GT. I first wanted to say thanks for all the valuable info that you guys post on this forum. I got the redline shifter boot and armrest cover, and I think I have the armrest cover installed properly, but there seem to be a lot of...
