Need help/idea/opinion with front shock install

    Because a hex socket costs $5.00, and a grade 8, 3/8" bolt costs $0.32?

    Ran out of fuel

Buy a Haynes for the Mazda3, it's the same thing. May just need a new filter, if you ran it dry you may have picked up all the sediment and nasties at the very bottom of the tank and clogged the filter. Change the filter and run a bottle of fuel system cleaner (if they make it for diesels?)...

Need help/idea/opinion with front shock install

It's like a hex socket, shaved down into that elliptical shape. Insert it, turn 90 degrees, install strut. It's not expensive, but it's not that common to find at your local Autozone either. Simple and it works, as I mentioned if you have a bench grinder it would take a matter or minutes to...

Need help/idea/opinion with front shock install

Ah, now I understand. Yeah, there are various ways to spread that mount - bolt & quarter, knuckle spreader tool, big screwdriver, etc. How did you get it apart - BFH? If you have a bolt and a bench grinder, you can make your own knuckle spreader tool.

Need help/idea/opinion with front shock install

Kind of like rod said, I've always been able to lean over the fender and hold the strut up with one hand while getting one bolt/nut started with the other. Note: I am NOT endowed with any upper body strength, and I can still do this with assemblies heavier than the Mazda unit. If you can't do...

    Front license plate delete kit

Yeah, two small holes will be what's there. Plug them up with some black RTV or a plastic clip, and call it good. You'll be the only one to ever notice, unless you are showing your 5 at meets regularly.

    A dying breed...

Those numbers aren't done by model year (MY), they are simply actual units sold. So when you're looking at the December and January numbers, it's probably mostly the new MY, but it also includes the last of the remaining previous MY that dealers are clearing off their lots.

    A dying breed...

The interesting thing is that 5 sells steadily without ANY promotion or advertising budget. (when was the last time you saw a mz5 commercial on TV?) The advertising budget is focused on the SUVs, the high-volume mz3, and the image car MX-5 Miata. The 5 doesn't sell Toyota Sienna numbers, but...

    Strange tire incident

Not every leak is visible externally like a large nail or screw. You can easily pick up a staple, piece of wire, etc that you can't see but will still leak air slowly. Also, you said you checked it after 1 day and it hadn't lost any air. 1 day isn't a lot of time for a slow leak. When was...

<'10 vs. +'12 individual component costs

Just look at the pictures - it's the sticker removal cost, obviously. What panel is that?

Mazda license plate - metal embossed

I guess I'm confused - I thought the purpose of not having a front plate was... to not have a front plate. You must REALLY love the brand, lol.

    Mazda 5 TS 2.0d

No, pouring a bottle of detergents in the gas tank is not the magic cure for smoke out the tailpipe.

    Mazda 5 TS 2.0d

More info needed. Smoke color - white, blue, black? (oops just saw you said white) When - constant, startup, accelerating, coast down? Oil consumption? Fluid levels? Environmental conditions? For example, if you saw white smoke but only at start up on a cold day that's normal it's just...

How to add OEM HIDs to a 2013 Mazda5 Touring?

Well, I caved. All the discussion in this thread and I couldn't resist - I bought a set of HID retrofit kit. I was about to say that I would review them, and update THIS post (note that there is no link, where I planned to put one), but I think the thread about the LED headlight bulbs was...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

As always, I'm here to play devils advocate, with a word of warning/advice. Keep in mind that those headlamp polishing kits are a very temporary solution UNLESS you apply a new permanent UV protectant after you have polished. Plastic headlamp lenses are coated with a UV protectant layer, and...

How to add OEM HIDs to a 2013 Mazda5 Touring?

Secondtyme, have you seen the TRS harness that you mention? Is there something about the TRS relay harness that is better than the harnesses from other sources? It's just wire, a relay, and a connector. There's nothing complicated or unique about wiring up headlights on their own relay - you...

    A Tune?

IMO, yes it is worth the $450. Pretty sure Rod never got tuned by DT b/c they couldn't crack his ECU without the car on site? So he unfortunately wouldn't have input regarding the end product. The DT business model is that the price for a tune is lifetime (well, if you stay NA - there's an...

    A Tune?

Zen-like levels of patience is key. If you want to have your tune done in a week (lol...), or even a month, don't do this (Dynotronics tune). If you go into it with the expectation that it will take several months, maybe longer, then IMO tuning is worth it. The difference in the NA engine was...
