What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Awesome. I love Mid Ohio, only raced there once, but watched a lot more races. An all around great track. But you are going to have to try hard to convince me there was a slower car on the straights...

Adjusting HID low beams for 2010

The lights have to be adjustable, it is FMVSS regulation that they be aim-able (the in cabin leveler doesn't count as aiming). I have a sport without in cabin adjustable lights and my aiming devices on the lamps look the same as pretty much every other headlight system I've seen, so Mazda...

Actually, the full thread disappeared, so I reposted my review separately just now.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I was not impressed by the LED headlight bulbs I reviewed a few months ago. They perform poorly compared to the H11 halogen bulbs the lamp was designed for, and are definitely NOT safe or legal for use. They simply do not illuminate down the road like a headlight should. The BULB output may...

Static review: White wall & lux comparison: LED, H11 LL, H11+100, H9

Here is my static review (beam pattern, Lux measurement) of various headlight bulb options for the Mazda5, or any vehicle that uses the H11 bulb. My dynamic review (driving) can be found HERE. I will be reviewing DDM HID kit soon. Here is the test setup that I used for this quick...

    Improving engine performance?

Replacing cats is a lot cheaper than buying a new vehicle. Parts availability doesn't become difficult the year after a model is discontinued - more like 20 years. The mz5 is probably not the best vehicle for convenience with 3 kids, if convenience is what you want when considering selling...

Mazda5 exhaust compared to Mazda3 exhaust?

Good info loosenut! You said that you wish that you had done the full ms3 system, but also that you were unhappy with your resonator choice in your custom midpipe. Can you expand on that point? What is wrong with the resonator you chose - too loud, quiet, buzzy, droning, etc? What resonator...

"Mazda5 to be phased out for U.S. in 2015." - Automotive News

If they aren't going to sell it through 2015,there won't be a 2015 model. There's cost involved with certifying the 2015 model year that Mazda likely wouldn't want to incur for just a couple months of production. The 2014s will almost certainly be the last model year, though Mazda could choose...

Mazda5 exhaust compared to Mazda3 exhaust?

Where's that "roll eyes" emoticon?... I guess we can argue semantics, in which case I would counter with, "If thats what you meant, you should have said 'inexpensive' instead of 'least expensive' because they are different." Or we can agree that tone is hard to convey via the internet, I'm...

Mazda5 exhaust compared to Mazda3 exhaust?

I agree completely. I was just supplying the correct answer when the request was simply "cheapest way possible". OP hadn't said yet what his quality expectations were yet. :P And the mom-n-pop solution is very much YMMV, some are good but many are absolute trash and do poor work.

Mazda5 exhaust compared to Mazda3 exhaust?

Least expensive way? A mom-an-pop muffler shop will cut out the rusty section and weld in a replacement pipe in 20 minutes, for like $30. (plan to repeat every 3 years though, with this solution.) Or did you mean least-expensive-NON-cut-and-weld method?

On the psychology of cops and minivans

It seems that many of us drive the Mazda5 because we like sporty cars, but life circumstances (usually kids) dictate that we need those extra seats, sliding doors, etc. So we wound up with the sportiest driving family hauler we can find. IMO it stands to reason that if you like sporty cars...

Mazda5 exhaust compared to Mazda3 exhaust?

Umm, I can tell you that the ms3 exhaust is significantly different... The ms3 downpipe off the turbo mates to a separate midpipe, then to the cat-back in the ms3. In the mz5, the manifold, "downpipe", and midpipe are all one piece. The joints between sections are not in the same places on...

Need help/idea/opinion with front shock install

Other thoughts: 1. sanding of the knuckle ID to remove surface rust/gunk 2. sanding of the strut OD to remove excess paint thickness 3. light filing/grinding of the knuckle/strut to create a chamfer on the edges (or maybe to make the current chamfer larger). Trying to put a 50mm tube with a...

Selling our newish 2013 M5 GT, 9K mi

It's becoming less and less common to be able to claim that you sold a $20k car to a random person for $5k. In addition to being fraud, and the associated risk if the bureaucracy catches you (not likely, I'll admit), many states are implementing flat rates for vehicle values. Texas did this a...

Selling our newish 2013 M5 GT, 9K mi

Huh? Where I'm from, sales tax is sales tax, whether you pay it at a dealer or private party sale doesn't matter... And registration? Yay, $25 saved! (may be more in CA, I understand. But it's not a significant amount in the purchase of a car). OK...??? I'm calling you out for not knowing...
