I agree that the nav sucks, but for what its worth there are offline nav apps that work with CarPlay (and I assume android auto) like Tom Tom. I wouldnt buy one, but I think I saw that the newly redesigned 2020 Ford Escape has waze built in. Pretty cool.

The cheapest 2016 model within 100 miles of me (millions of people) is 13k for a Sport model with ~85k miles and visible scrapes on the side. Jumps up to ~15k for a Touring with 100k. Cheapest CRV is about 14K with 40K miles, so not a huge difference. But I am not sure what that has to do...

Same in New England. It would be really interesting to see Mazda sales broke down by region. Anecdotally I have seen a good number of them around here, but mostly CRVs and Foresters.
