I suspect it's not some nefarious plot from Mazda to make more money. Back when that switch was spec'ed out for the car they ordered or made X amount of units, enough to build the expected amount of cars they produced using it plus whatever they thought they would need as spare parts over X...

I see them on the Reddit CX-5 sub pretty regularly, enough so that I'm aware of the problem. Mostly people with higher mileage '14s and '15s asking why their car won't turn off completely.

The only thing is you're replacing it with another 10 yr old switch that has a bad track record to begin with. I would at least see if it's possible to take the used one you bought apart before you install it and clean and lube the mech and also the electrical contacts on the switch itself...

I've never had it happen but read about enough instances of it happening that I bought a spare fob key insert off ebay for like 8 bucks and had it cut by a local locksmith. It lives sealed in a plastic bag taped to the rear of my license plate. Cheap insurance.
