Start with the battery. Many issues are caused by a low, dead or dying battery. The code refers to a low voltage signal, but that could be because of the battery. So get that sorted out first, reset the code and see what happens.

The easiest way to tell is testing their resistance with a multimeter. Takes but a few minutes. Resistance should be 5k ohms or extremely close to that. Fake plugs will be all over the place.

If the headlamps on your 2014 were not HID to begin with, then maybe the mounting is different as ours swivel from side to side when turning and there is a mechanism for that? On the other hand, after 11 years and 145k miles of driving, my HIDs still work just fine.
