I would call and chew them out so they will get their act together. I let them know a month ago and apparently Quirk didn't address the issue. edit..I saw the word Quirk and assumed it was the dealer Quirk Mazda in Quincy, MA..lol

hmm..my driving conditions are very similar to yours and as I posted above, I got 27.9 on my 2nd fill up with 87 octane, GTR AWD. My tires are out 35. I certainly have been testing the turbos power on every short trip, so its not like I'm driving 40-45 all the time with no quick accelerations...

how much can oil cool down in 30 seconds..and how would that help mpg?

2nd fill up on new Reserve, 87 octane..all miles driven were rural, no city, no highway. Computer stated 27.7 MPG, actual was 27.9. Very satisfied with this. Rated 22-27. I have never gotten over the estimated MPG on any vehicle, especially non highway. edit..did not drive like a granny at all..

selling a new car bought 4 months ago is insane. Did you research? Did you test drive? This would not be a smart financial decision. What is so bad with the cx-5 that would force you into such a decision?

no need to ever return to the dealer..except for warranty work(hopefully not needed)
