What have you done to your CX-3 today?

Replaced the original radiator cap at 167K+ miles. When I put the new one on, I realized that the original one had become quite loose around the plastic neck. No fluid leaks. The new one was so tight that I thought I got the wrong size. The coolant level was all the way up for the temp sensor to...

7 SUVs that will be banned in 2026 - Scary if true

About purchasing a new vehicle of other brands, I was thinking about exploring an entirely new (to me) territory: EV. Since I've had sedan, hatchback, compact van, coupe, roadster, small SUV, large SUV, cargo van, I am ready for a single cab pickup. The Slate EV will be a pickup in its default...

7 SUVs that will be banned in 2026 - Scary if true

It would have been good information if not AI. I am still learning to distinguish AI from genuine content. Hate to get worked up by heart warming animal rescue videos.

The gate keepers in the cooling system

There's no coolant temperature gauge on my dash board, only a two-digit display of ambient temperature. The OBDII scanner is the only way for me to find out. Seeing the number fluctuating is better than having a heart attack when the overheating light comes on. 😅 I understand, for diligent folks...

The gate keepers in the cooling system

Thank you, I didn't know that. I suppose the later/higher concentration formula is for newer models? The very old OEM coolant came out ok so I didn't collect a sample. Evidence of corrosion would be rust bits and etc?

The gate keepers in the cooling system

Thank you! I am adding more parts to my list. For items that are easy to access and replace, I'd buy whatever I can get quickly on Amazon that has decent reviews. Otherwise OEM due to limited access to shop/help. The radiator cap (16 psi) that I ordered has a built-in temp sensor. I searched...

The gate keepers in the cooling system

Thank you for confirming this! I believe the 1993 NA that I briefly owned was also like this, but I thought that was old tech. 🤦

The gate keepers in the cooling system

Thank you! I thought small displacement with small cooling system capacity would be faster to warm up. All my street cars are small displacement (2.0, 1.6, 1.1) so I always worry about overheating. I feel that the cooling system is behaving differently from what I remembered. There are parts...

The gate keepers in the cooling system

One thing that I have learned after a cooling disaster on my MINI is that by turning on the heater, the coolant in the heater core gets to mix with the rest of the fluid and helps bring down the temperature slightly. Now that I am watching the temperature of the CX-3 more closely, I tried this...

What have you done to your CX-3 today?

Tried using this USB fluid transfer pump with the coolant. It has a soft hose to dump fluid and a skinny hose (with a section of soft hose as the lead) to draw fluid. It would have fit into any narrow diameter opening that is damn STRAIGHT. The radiator cap sits on a short arm that extends from...

Average coolant temperature for the CX-5?

I have seen the coolant temp go higher than 212F on my 2.0 NA. I recall 216F on a recent drive, it would go back down on its own. I almost never use AC. This morning I turned the heater on max but there was no impact to the temp. A few months ago I tested it during a traffic jam and the temp...

    What's in your cabinet?

Want to clean the debris out of the nooks and crannies under the engine cover. Going to run without it so I may need to clean more often. Saw a compressed air duster that claims to go 60 mph. 😂

    What's in your cabinet?

Waiting for more... What do you recommend for getting the debris out from the top of the engine? My hand-held vacuume is weak. The leaf blower and shop vac can't get the small pieces out. Compressed air duster then?

What have you done to your CX-3 today?

Replaced the pair of headlight bulbs (low beam) because the driver side is burnt out. Wanted oem (warm white) look and got exactly that. The low beams are the outer set of lights. Press down the tab on the electrical connector to pull it down. The few wires to the connector are not wrapped in...
