    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

Yes, it's my daily driver. It's got just under 11,600 miles now, since I bought it new at the end of October, 2013. So probably a bit over 15k by her first birthday. That's consistent with what I expected. My previous DD's have gotten ~13k/yr, but we've taken a couple road trips in the mz5...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

I hadn't even thought of that possible solution with a BPV. But I am using a BOV vent to atmosphere, so it won't work for me.

Thanks. Did you have your WG "cracked" or fully open when making 2-3psi? I ask b/c the original WG actuator rod only let me crack the WG flapper to about 20degrees or so (see post #15) so I made a new rod that allows it to be fully open at all times. But: 1. I could see it making some level...

Mazda5 Coilover Help. Do Mazda3 Coilover setups fit a Mazda5?

If you want to be able to do simple and quick adjustments of camber/caster plates, then yes. If you want to use stock strut top mounts (I did), or do a set-it-and-forget-it type alignment (it will be more involved b/c you'll need to pull the strut to change adjustment), then you don't have to cut.

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

Tuner got me a new file this afternoon with the correct injector sizes, and the car is running well. On the one hand, it bugs me that he was late delivering the file, and that it was incorrect. But on the other hand, he did go into the "office" on Sunday to address my issues. No videos yet...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

The implication was that I did get the issues sorted. Pleased to say it was NOT my issue. It was the tune. Tuner screwed up and wrote the file using 440cc injectors, I'm using stock (242cc) for now while running zero boost, then going to 550cc when I start adding boost.

Pictures first, status update second... With a sharp drill bit and a steady hand, you can make some decent chips. But damn I wish I had a drill press. One issue I have with this car is the wimpy horn. So I added a second "low tone" horn I bought on Amazon for 20 bucks. Makes a huge...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

Fluids in, battery connected, ready to start... It's going to be loud - I have no exhaust behind the downpipe at the moment, lol. No vids of the first start, I'll be on alert for any leaks or other abnormalities. Maybe the second start...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

July 18. Basically the only thing left before it is ready to start is installation of the intake pipe (easy), and fabrication of a battery tray for the smaller battery I decided to buy today. Other than that, it's just putting the car back together (cowl, bumper cover, fender liners). Today's...

Mazda5 Coilover Help. Do Mazda3 Coilover setups fit a Mazda5?

They (mz3 parts) will physically fit, but the rear of the mz5 is heavier. Unless you get stiffer springs and appropriate valving on the shocks, it will sag in the rear and handle poorly.

Exhausted. Pictures. Few words... psssh... psssh... Detail of heater hose routing. Boring... Next! Oil pan oil return fitting. Oil pan oil return fitting and line. Down pipe fitted, but not torqued yet. OK, some words: I wasted about 1.5 hours tonight re-re-installing the...

    Remaining punchlist for turbo...

I'll take it, is it complete and in good working condition? (I assume yes, but I'm the type that asks anyway) Make me an offer I can't refuse... wait, I don't think I'm supposed to say that AFTER I've said I want to buy it... Did you sell the turbo kit? Who bought it? Local person? mz3 or mz5?

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

Tonight's update might not have a lot of good visual updates, because I've already shown you the money shot of the turbo in the car (even though it was a preliminary mock up to determine clearances and route lines and such). But in actuality, I made really good progress today - actually, WE...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

Tonight's update: The pan is waiting for the JB Weld to fully cure (24 hrs) before I tap the oil return. My tuner (Dynotronics) wants there to be zero boost initially. The rod that came with the IWG actuator will only open the WG about 20 degrees when it is at its max extension. Here's the...

    2013 Mazda5 turbocharger installation

As I mentioned, I'm nervous about taping into the oil pan - I've never done it before, and I don't have a TIG to fix any screwups. So I'm proceeding slowly. When you need a larger tap wrench, but the size you need is $100 at the local Grainger/MSC/Fastenal, you build a makeshift one yourself...
