Manual Mazda5 - Need help with Replacement Part Numbers for exhaust

Not yet, but I need to make a similar repair soon. I seem to only have one leak, so I may try welding a patch or replacing the elbow area with a bit of scrap elbow. What source are you looking at? Offhand, I'm having trouble finding "5" exhaust at all (AZ, NAPA). Summit Racing lists the mid...

What's a good transmission oil to use for the Mazda5?

Took me forever to figure out about these newfangled ATFs before settling on the Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle. Vehicle-specific info seems to be hard to come by - IIRC, even the "5" owner's manual conspicuously fails to tell you about fluids other than oil weight. For some reason the...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Changed p/s shaft and wheel bearing; grinding noise is gone! Now maybe I can worry about other things like doing the brakes again (and actually buying new rear rotors like I should have done years ago) and even cosmetic things like washing the outside and cleaning the interior.

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

That sounds terrible! It's awful when you have to make the decision between a major repair and a new vehicle. I finally did my d/s axle shaft (cost 50% more than I'd budgeted; I'd been looking at the wrong item at napaonline!), and the grinding noise is still there. Still changes with...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Currently putting off replacing the driver's side CV joint, now that I've figured out what that awful noise is, and why it changes with steering angle, and why it keeps getting worse even after doing the driver's side hub and both inner CV boots. 75k miles! Who knew CV joints could fail on a...

    Intermediate shaft carrier bearing?

Thanks for the reply! Still ... figures. Having the machine shop press bearings for me is expensive!

    FWD issues

The only C-max sold here (that I've ever been able to find out about) was the high roof five seat hybrid. The UK market Grand C-max seems to have been very similar to the 5, and could be a parts source, provided it was offered with the same 5 speed automatic transaxle. That would take a little...

    FWD issues

So ..... any input on Parts Geek or Zoomzoomnationparts? Any experience on whether intermediate shaft bearings are a benchtop job or require a shop press?

    Intermediate shaft carrier bearing?

Apologies for the zombie thread, but my new thread has fizzled .... How did you perform the bearing replacement? Were you able to do it on the benchtop with hand tools, or did you use a hydraulic press?

    FWD issues

Checked this yesterday .... nothing happens. Sound stays the same.

    FWD issues

So, we've been having some fun learning experiences working through the FWD system on our 2012 "5", replacing things that look bad, and will hopefully eventually fix the annoying noise that got us tearing into the thing in the first place. Not terribly relevant, but I'm super irritated at...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

More info than I had this morning, thanks! :-) I tend to grumble, but it is interesting to learn about new-to-me technology. Does the p/s axle disconnect from the intermediate shaft (and the intermediate shaft from the diff) in the same way?

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Currently procrastinating about repairing my bad CV boots, finally hopped on here to look for some tech information. I replaced the d/s front wheel bearing ($$$!) when a weird hum started under the car and inspection showed the bearing was loose; however, the noise is still there and a closer...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Awesome! I'm still a little depressed over paying $85 (with discount) to my dealer years ago, and not only did they not touch camber or caster (the car still drifts to the right a bit like it did before), they gave the car back with the steering wheel pointing several degrees to the left! I've...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Yes, quite. This is a rhythmic squeak consistent with road speed that goes away when the brakes are applied. Never had this before. If it didn't go away under braking I'd be more confident it was a hub, but a squeak is an odd noise for a hub .... thus the suspicion that it could be rubbing...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Wow, that silver car looks great! Still hurts a little to look at since I live in the Great Northern Land of Carnivorous Potholes. This past week, I finally snatched a day to look at the rattling exhaust heat shields that had been driving me crackers for what seemed like months. It was...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Ended up changing my own oil this time around, mostly because what with life and things I never got around to visiting the dealership for an oil change. Entertainingly, after having purchased oil and a filter, I was thinking about the task at home and realized I had no easy way to get the...

    Mushy brake pedal (2006 Mazda5)

So basically, proper bleeding of an ABS equipped vehicle involves triggering an "ABS event" to get the fluid to cycle through all the ABS valves, which is normally done in the shop with a special scan tool designed to issue special commands directly to the vehicle's surplus technogeekery. Got...

    Eliminating RFID on ignition key?

Sorry, I'm really not sure what "box" you mean to refer to. By "hacking", I assume you mean actually reprogramming the ECM? I think that's what a friend of mine had to have done so that a '99 Mustang Cobra engine could use its stock ECM without having to be physically plugged into the...

What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

A mod video reminded me that my dealership wanted to replace my fuel filter at some insane price (about $200 IIRC - silly me didn't take a copy of the over $2000.00 in random bits they recommended that day). So far, I have not been able to discover that replacement fuel filters for my car even...
