What have you done to your P5 today?

Oooh Laser Blue! I think that's my favorite color on a P5. Curious, what kind of low mileage engine did you get - is it a USDM junkyard engine or a JDM engine?

What have you done to your P5 today?

Bought some new tires. Haven't gotten them installed yet but thought I'd mention the deal I got them on. They're the Continental DWS06+ in 205/50R16, online at Walmart. I got a set of four for just under $500, which is $125/tire before install fees (which I think will be around $80). DWS06+...

Would you consider the Mazda Protege and MP5 "cult cars"?

This has been my experience too and it makes me sad! It's always some old person or somebody who looks like they'd rather "upgrade" to a nicer car. Yes it's an old economy car but they really are nice if you maintain and take care of them. I'm definitely biased though, and I apply a lot of...

Fresh Sweet Donuts Everywhere! (work log)

+1 for this. A KL swap is at the top of my list for my P5 once it makes sense for me to own a second car as the daily. I've got a general idea of what's involved but man I'd love to see an easier way to do it like a kit.

Not a fan of Dorman either, but I have those same Amazon Dorman trailing arms on my P5 and they seemed good when I installed them.

Review: DFJ (TWM style) short shift lever

The stock shifter has some rubber isolation for vibrations that the DFW/TWM doesn't have I believe, so you'll be losing that. I haven't tried the short shifter alone with stock bushings but I'd imagine that would be the best combination - shorter throw but almost stock vibration damping...

Review: DFJ (TWM style) short shift lever

Glad it worked out decently well! Seems like a decent alternative to the other bad designs and to the unobtainable genuine TWM kits of years past. I have almost the same setup. My experience has been the same with the shift feel. Though to be fair, a lot of what I've experienced is likely...

    Troubling Engine Noise

Interesting. I'm definitely going through at least a few quarts of oil between oil changes but it's been like that since I bought it and I'm 45k miles in. Just hit 187k. I do my oil changes at around 3000 miles. I definitely run the car hard but I always let it warm up and always keep the...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Glad you asked...i've got some (hopefully useful) thoughts I started with the Megan racing purple shifter kit with some bushings for ~$90 total and it was not the best quality, rattled and whined in most gears, I think because it uses it's own design for the whole collar/bushing pivot assembly...

What have you done to your P5 today?

I think I vaguely remember there being a Ford twin for the SP20/P5 but wow it's weird to look at. That wing looks sweet though! Probably a pretty rare touch here in the states. Really good information to have before I purchase, thanks! I'm definitely looking to stick with All Seasons, being...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Hey looking good! Okay...call me a nerd here but are those Continental tires you're running? I recognize the tread pattern. If so, which ones, and would you recommend them? I am about to purchase a set of DWS 06s for my P5.

Dang...you're giving me ideas now... Is your plan to wrap the entire car in that color?

    2003 Protege5 exhaust modification question

Okay, definitely understandable. I'm running a completely stock muffler now but what I will tell you is that without a muffler, the P5 is LOUD. I had an old non-OEM stock muffler on before and it was such crap quality that it rusted and fell off on the highway and the car was so stupid loud...

    2003 Protege5 exhaust modification question

For what's worth - I've got a RacingBeat OEM MSP muffler sitting in my garage waiting for me to have time to get the tip shortened to fit my P5. I do have a clip of the stock vs MSP muffler but it's with the exhaust facing into my garage so it sounds very boomy and unnatural. My impression of...

Question on special tool needed when removing CV axles for clutch replacement

I pulled my transmission to do my clutch last summer and had never even heard of this until now. I just pulled the axles and then pulled the transmission. I didn't have any problems, but maybe I just avoided disaster. I watched several videos on it and read a lot of forum posts before and...

What have you done to your P5 today?

New wheels. After my little run-in with a curb in the snow, one of the Mazda3 wheels is a little bent up, and it was time to switch off the snow tires. These are 16x6.5" 2013 Hyundai Sonata wheels with an offset of +43. Mounted to the car, they have a total offset of +38 with 5mm spacers...
