    2008 Mazda CX-9 AWD Testing

I would trust the transmission shop. Definitely have them replace both the transmission fluid and PTU gear oil. The PTU is the weak link. With only 1/2 qt of gear oil inside that is constantly being cooked by the exhaust. The result: The PTU bearings get cooked, create a huge load and take the...

    2013-2016 Replacement headlight lenses, anyone?

Pro tip: if you choose to recondition your headlights you can preserve the clear lens with a wipe on uv clear coat from a company called safetclear. It is easy to use and lasts for years. Otherwise, as you know, once you use a restore kit the lens looks great but gets cloudy again within a year.

    Denied warranty

Thanks for the service manual sections those are great to have. There’s no reason to remove the caliper piston during brake service. Last bit of input: if Mazda refuses to replace the caliper under warranty at least save some money by getting the replacement at medcenter Mazda. The online part...

    Denied warranty

Sorry to hear this. For whatever reason this dealer has decided not to be an advocate for you. No point to further discuss brake service with them. You need to go to the regional service people and explain your case. Simply that you serviced your brakes yourself using the Mazda service manual...

    HELP!

Guys: you might be right. It might need a battery, but it is so easy to test before buying new parts. After all a battery is >$100 and a starter even more. If after all of that you found it was actually bad connections or bad cables that would be a waste. Confirm: When turning the key you hear a...

    2009 Mazda5 Leaking Oil Cooler

Sounds good. But even if you do drain oil and coolant expect to need to catch both coolant and oil when you disassemble the oil cooler. The gasket between the oil cooler and oil filter housing is, in fact, separate. No harm in replacing everything that came with the kit. By any chance did it...

    HELP!

It sounds like a crank no start condition. Just to confirm: Does the starter crank the engine? Do you know how to check for spark when the engine is cranking? I’m sorry this is happening to you. This always happens at the worst time possible. When these kinds of questions are asked it seems like...

Feedback/concerns/review on Pirelli p7 all season Plus!

My experience is based on the Pirelli P7 without the plus severe snow rating. The new plus version may be improved. When new they are great. Quiet and good grip in all roads including snow. However I found them to wear quickly and as they did the traction was much worse on wet or snow covered...

2017~2025 Downsize and new tire offset

Those wheels will work for the CX-5. You will have 3/8” additional backspacing but there is enough clearance. Add some 225/60 snow tires and your CX-5 will be unstoppable all winter.

    Wheel sizing question

Appreciate the caution and analysis is fun but maybe it’s time for some field work? Couple ideas: bring a floor jack and cordless impact wrench to the seller and check before buying. Or an at home check with the same tools plus a stout piece of cardboard cut at 17” from center and a ruler...

    Replace your coolant: CX-5 CX-3 Mazda3 Mazda6

FWIW all the options listed are HOAT coolants that meet the Mazda spec. The Ford options are guaranteed the same as Mazda branded with different labels. I used the Pentofrost A2 diluted 40% with distilled water when I did a water pump on a first gen CX-9. Bottom line: I believe these are all...

    Wheel sizing question

If 8" rim with +50mm offset works then your 7.5" rim with +50mm offset will definitely work. 8", 50mm offset = 151.6 mm backspacing (rim behind the hub) 7.5", 50mm offset = 145.25 mm backspacing

    2009 Mazda5 Leaking Oil Cooler

Small tips: You should be able to get away without draining coolant. Some needle nose vise grips - or if you want to invest in some hose pinch pliers (same idea) can be used to pinch the coolant hose to / from the oil cooler. If you recently changed oil you could also simply put a drain pan...

    Denied warranty

Second: Take the complaint further up the line to regional service contacts. Be aware you are in a gray area. Brake pads are wear items not covered by warranty. But if the caliper locked up that would be a manufacturer defect that should be covered. I can understand the dealer reluctance. It is...

    CX-5 Trailer Hitch

Nice jobs folks on your trailer hitches. OEM or aftermarket they are very handy to have.

    CX-5 Trailer Hitch

Yeah - the receiver portion of the hitch is not made to be easily removed - just the stuff you add to the receiver. And if you think about it ideally the receiver portion is best completely integrated with the car. Both OEM and aftermarket options get a pretty solid mount. The Curt class II...

    CX-5 Trailer Hitch

No disrespect for the use of OEM parts. Just an alternative that will get you the functionality of being able to add a cargo tray, bicycle carrier or tow a small trailer or a small boat. The OEM hitch is class I so it will be lighter compared to a class III hitch. The class III hitch is made...

    CX-5 Trailer Hitch

I really don't see any functional benefit to the factory hitch - and more downside if it requires cutting the bumper. Not mentioned yet: There is a Curt Class II 1 1/4" hitch. I went this route because I already owned 1 1/4" tow bar accessories like the ball mount and a bicycle carrier. Also...

    2017 CX-5 GT wipers suck

Has anyone tried the NAPA house branded ExactFit WIP6024FZ and WIP6018FZ. These appear to have the Mazda OE attachment without the need for adapters. I'm guessing these are made by Trico - but not certain.

Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly replacement

I agree that Moog is a good brand, but has deteriorated some recently. If OEM is $100 then forget the others and go OEM. A $40 wheel bearing assembly falls into the category of so inexpensive that I'd question the quality. But Chris_Top_Her may have found a great value. More info? Replacing a...
