bad. If it is fresh and no damage to the internals, I'd just do the boot. OEM shaft is crazy expensive and aftermarket is hit and miss. I'd buy the boot, take the unit apart and if not filled with dirt inside, swap the boot and call it a day. If money if no object, just get full OEM replacement.

So not to put holes in the panel. This method saves just issues and water penetration. Just heat up with head dryer and pry with a plastic pry tool. Apply new double sided tape and stick back.

I have a 2012. Purchased it as "rebuilt" with low miles in 2013. So far had one issue with a rear door slider wearing out. No other issue, no problems with suspension / noise. Car as solid as day one after 135k km / 84k miles. Lousy gas millage is my major complaint. I barely get 11L/100 km...
