Consumer Reports finds some newer cars burn too much oil

I'll bet they don't consume oil like the 350 SBC in my 72 C-10. Lmao But really... Wonder how much of that is depositing on the back sides of intake valves. Many of those appear to be GDI engines, no?

Doggone finance guys, I tell ya!

Feeling a bit bad about the dealership survey...

I'm slightly jaded by the displeasures auto purchasing, so I'd be near impossible for me to issue a perfect score on any facet of service. Hell, when I go to an auto dealership, I just walk in with my pants at my ankles.

Feeling a bit bad about the dealership survey...

IMO, if you rate the finance department truthfully, and their score plays an effect on the dealer group as a whole... Everybody would despise the finance department. Lol! I've never had a good experience with the finance folks at dealerships. I understand they're selling something. But I...

    The Subaru Outback Wins

I think there's good reason to avoid CVT at present time. I'm not certain if it is "the future" of automatics, or not. If it is to be, automakers will need to make some significant improvements to keep customer base happy. But, don't you know, between meeting your emissions and efficiency...

    I Hate My CX-5

Eh. I actually think, once a few gremlins were resolved, especially on the longitudinal variation, the 3.5l EB is a good engine. Much better than the rest of the vehicle built around it. In fact, it has been the best of all of their EB fleet of engines. Explorer Sport is a nice ride. But it's a...

    Rear air vents?

Get that child a Noggle! Haha! ^Didn't realize you were in Plano. I agree the weather in Texas is difficult to overcome in addition to the geography. Oh, and you forgot 35 mph winds on the reg.

What did you pay for your CX-5?

Seems like you did well. A colleague of mine always uses Car Max appraisals for his dealership business, since nearly any dealership will match their appraisal. He's in and out of cars like crazy though. Seems to work well for him!

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

That's clever. When I first brought home my SHO, I had difficulty shoehorning it into my garage. I have a smallish 2 car garage. I think literally the first or second day, I hadn't squeezed it in quite far enough. My wife was leaving the house, and so I was out of the car, sending her off...

    Rear air vents?

I've never verified airflow from the under seat vents, one way or the other. In 100 degree plus temps, with few trees for shade in North Texas, there's no escaping it. And the black interior of a car becomes overwhelmingly hot. There's no way those would suffice, especially for a child in a...

    2016 CX-5 Oil Change Frequency

Analysis on an 8K mile OCI on my wife's 2.0l CX-5 wasn't pretty. Fuel saturation was high. This, however, is due to driving habits or operational conditions, which is why Mazda recommend a 7500 OCI only under certain conditions. For my latest UOA, I chose a 7500 mile OCI, but this time with...

How often to you clean / protect your leather interior??

I use a suite of Lexol products. Only one of which is a conditioner, and so I don't condition every detail, but I do use the Lexol cleaner every detail. It noticibly removes dirt. I also use a Lexol vinyl cleaner and protector in my 1967 Skylark. It's a good product. There's probably better...

    Rear air vents?

No, I don't. Not when there's alternarives like the noggle vent thing on the market. There's more positives to buying a Mazda over a Honda or Toyota, overlooking the rear vent issue. If you live in a hot climate and think the noggle is too silly (and it borderline is, I literally LOLd the first...

    Rear air vents?

Okay, let's be honest here...it's probably adequate for adults. But, for young children, especially in a rear facing car seat, the front vents don't cut it. I think it's idiotic that the CX-5 doesn't have rear vents, but the 6 does. The CX-5 has tons more cargo volume. My groceries in the back...

    Rear air vents?

Lack of rear vents does suck. In my opinion, in Texas heat, the rear seat gets hot. Not a huge issue for my wife and I for the past few years. But, now that the little one is here, it just wasn't going to work. So, picked up one of these... It's a Noggle. Totally ridiculous looking, I know...

    2014 CX-5 Rotor problems

You'd be surprised how many lugs are fastened with pneumatic impact wrenches... On top of that, it's always possible that the appropriate torque pattern is not used. It totally happens.

Are there compelling performance mods for the 2.5??

The possibility for good gains from remapping the ECU are there. And it can be done safely and conservatively, so that engine longevity isn't affected. But there's a few guys out there tuning these engines whom, IMO, do not have the knowledge or pedigree to be doing such things. It's one thing...

    2014 CX-5 Rotor problems

If memory serves, that stop tech article details specifically that the issue arises from over torque on the lug nuts. Have you had the tires rotated? If so, verify the lugs have been applied at specified torque rating. I agree with a series of hard stops, and see where that gets you.
