First long trip coming up, up to the UP

Thanks for mpg report. I also have a IS350, get around 27-28 mpg on freeways. The highway efficiency of the CX-5 is very good for a tall SUV/crossover with awd.

What was your mpg on trips like that in the IS250?

    SkyActiv TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins)

That's also my preference for steering service a bit to expedite fixing the problem.

Your other car (Actual or Possibility)

I have a frugal car already (Civic GX, 29mpg on compressed natural gas at $2.54 per gallon and in California allows use of carpool/HOV lane while driving solo).

CO smell in cabin when idling

I've lowered my expectations a tad and do quick double checks. Yes the express lube joints have extra checks and balances to keep low wage unskilled workers on track, but I've seen what happens after they strip threads during tranny fluid change. I would not trust them to do much...

The CX-9 gave up it's life

Thankfully all are well, that's the ultimate goal for the CX-9 in this dangerous crash, occupants uninjured.

CO smell in cabin when idling

Good followup report BobF13, very helpful, thanks. I had a Ford dealer leave oil filler cap off after oil change on my Mustang GT. Fortunately I checked it before I drove home. Now I always pop the hood after service and look for obvious stuff like that before driving off the dealership lot.

Oil consumption, dirty exhaust and an answer from a Mazda mechanic

Soot on the exhaust pipes is common with direct injected gasoline engines.

    Anyone notice..........

C250 Sport version is lowered 0.6" versus the C250 Luxury version by Mercedes. A majority of C-classes sold in US are "Sports". (C250 Sport Pkg PLUS which comes with 18" AMG wheels)

    Rear brakes gone at 15k..

Exactly. Since others have taken this thread far from where OP intended (referring to post #1), I will comment. I agree completely with what MikeM has said above. Intelligent use of normal engine braking by a competent/skilled driver for increased control and less stress on the vehicle is one...

    Traded her in yesterday.

IHeartGroceries - Yes, for now I'm buzzing around here on occasion. Thanks for the kind words. I still have the IS350 for weekend use mainly (lightly modded w/19's, T1R's, F-sport/Eibach springs, F-sport (made by HKS) engraved exhaust, 3m tint, etc.), and still very much enjoy it often. My...

How many miles do you have?

Expired at end of July 2014 with 30K miles. (actually I sold CX-5 on July 27th, purchased March 18, 2012)

    Show me your CX-5 wheels

And the reality is staggered wheel/tire setups so common on premium cars (both rwd and awd) such as Mercedes, BMW, Lexus are for appearance mainly, marginally enhanced performance is secondary. We are not talking about rear-engine Porsche 911's of course. I have 2 rwd sport sedans with...
