What I find interesting is the seemingly uncritical acceptance of the NHTSA test result. What caused the drop in ratings (granted, it was on a test that is less demanding on vehicle structure than IIHS small overlap)? Maybe it was a flaw in the government's testing. Maybe the blame is Mazda's.

I'll take the more demanding IIHS tests and test results from over NHTSA any day. I have little confidence in NHTSA results!

Okay. So, clearly you're committed to your belief that the Sorento is superior. Then buy one. Mazda will still sell plenty of CX-9s to those able to appreciate its balance of qualities.

Keep in mind that the Kia and the Hyundai fail to have features that the CX-9 GT ( and Signature) have (e.g., LED headlights, heads up display, class leading torque and fuel economy). So, the comparison is not nearly as one-sided as you and the other detractors have made it out to be.

Mazda is one of those manufacturers that integrates belts nicely into the seat.

As someone said later in the discussion, there's no perfect vehicle. Still, I find it laughable that Honda doesn't even have true blind spot monitoring except on its top Pilot Elite trim. Also, do you want standard-setting LED headlights across the board? Mazda delivers; Pilot-nope!

I vote for the storage pockets on the sides of the cargo area. I have the cargo tray and still continue to be pleasantly surprised with what I can fit in them.

Actually, the 2016 Pilot DOES have a tuned version of SH-AWD. However, even if it is in the mid-upper $40K range, that the new CX-9 Signature will be the new class leader and still a great value!

In my opinion, it's more accurate to say that the X3 is a foolish person's CX-5.
